Bayshore Beach
Hampton, VA 23664

Carol,

While we have always focused on our beloved Buckroe, we cannot ignore the fact that Bayshore was just down the beach.
Of course, we didn't like to think much about it in the early 60s,
but we cannot ignore it as an old icon of the era of segregation.
It deserves a place on the site.

Perhaps its addition will spur some recollections.

WAY BACK THEN:
Bay Shore Ferris Wheel

"Thanks to Harriet for this picture."

  I found this on E-Bay.
It is dated as being from the 1920s. Notice the coaster on the right. The geometry of the photo tells me that it is not the Buckroe Coaster, but I don't recollect that Bayshore had one.  The ensuing discussions
will tell us.

I'm Always Here

(Baywatch Theme Song)

Some people stand in darkness
Afraid to step into the light.
Some people need to help somebody
When the edge of surrender is in sight.
Don't you worry, it's going to be all
right.

'Cause I'm always there,
I won't let you out of my sight.
I'll be there--never you fear
I'll be there--forever and always
I'm always here.

'Cause I'm always there,
I won't let you out of my sight.
I'll be there--never you fear
I'll be there--forever and always
I'm always here.

The Sand and the Sea

Artist: Nat King Cole
Words and Music by Hal Hester and Barry Parker, 1955

If I find peace of mind in the sand and the sea,
There's a hope in my heart that you'll soon be with me,
There's a prayer that I share with the sand and the sea,
And it cries "Come to me, come to me."

As my eyes search the skies from the edge of the shore,
You are here in my arms for a moment or more,
Then a tear rushes down to the sand and the sea,
And it cries "Come to me, come to me."

But as long as there's sand, as long as there's sea,
As long as there's time, I'll wait hopefully.
As long as there's heaven up above,
Let the sand and the sea bring my love to me.

But as long as there's sand, as long as there's sea,
As long as there's time, I'll wait hopefully.
As long as there's heaven up above,
Let the sand and the sea bring my love to me.

Under the Boardwalk

Artist: The Drifters

When the sun beats down
And burns the tar up on the roof
And your shoes get so hot
You wish your tired feet were fireproof

Under the boardwalk
Down by the sea
On a blanket with my baby
Is where I'll be

(Under the boardwalk) Out of the sun
(Under the boardwalk) We'll be having some fun
(Under the boardwalk) People walking above
(Under the boardwalk) We'll be making love
(Under the boardwalk, boardwalk)

From the park you'll hear
The happy sound of a carousel
You can almost taste the hot dogs
And French fries they sell

Under the boardwalk
Down by the sea, yeah
On a blanket with my baby
Is where I'll be

(Under the boardwalk) Out of the sun
(Under the boardwalk) We'll be having some fun
(Under the boardwalk) People walking above
(Under the boardwalk) We'll be making love
(Under the boardwalk, boardwalk)

Oh, under the boardwalk
Down by the sea
On a blanket with my baby
Is where I'll be

(Under the boardwalk) Out of the sun
(Under the boardwalk) We'll be having some fun
(Under the boardwalk) People walking above
(Under the boardwalk) We'll be falling in love
(Under the boardwalk, boardwalk)
