Dear
Friends and Schoolmates,
I was saddened to read the sad
news of the passing of
Doris Harris Burns, Class of @ 1943,
mother of
Steve Burns ('65) of
MN, who passed away in Newport News on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the age of
93. Doris worked at the Colonial Stores
in Stuart Gardens for many years.
My own mother,
the late
Maxine Frix
Buckley (John
Marshall HS - '25) (19
May 1908 - 15 Feb 1999)
thought very highly of her, and enjoyed her friendship with her immensely.

O Love That Will Not Let Me Go
Words by George Matheson (27 Mar 1842 - 28 Aug 1906).
1882
Music by Albert Lister Peace (26 Jan 1844 - 14 Mar 1912), 18854
O Love that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe,
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.
O light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.
O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.
O Cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.
