“I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long.
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
As it does from time to time, this Newsletter theme just popped into my mind again.
BONUS - Dream Lover - Bobby Darin on the Ed Sullivan Show, 1959
|"Dream Lover" is a song written and recorded by
Bobby Darin on March 5, 1959. It was produced by
Ahmet Ertegun and
Jerry Wexler and engineered by

multi-million seller, reaching #2 in US charts and was #1 in UK for
three weeks during July 1959.
It was released as a single on
Atco Records in 1959. In addition to Darin's vocal, the song

A picture sleeve was also issued for this record.
The song is featured in the movie "Hot Shots!" starring Charlie Sheen. It is played during a scene in which Sheen's character performs several stunts on a motorcycle, trying to impress a girl. Darin's recording is also played, in full, during the end credits.

From Joan Lauterbach Krause ('60) of VA - 01/08/18:
|Thank you, Joan!|
|Not long after I was married, I heard the
news that one of my very
best friends and his little brother had been
out driving when they were hit by a drunk driver. His little brother
only barely survived and my friend didn't make it. I still think of
him often, especially every year on his birthday, Dec. 23rd. I think
of him and the life he might have had. I think of his baby that must
be older than my son now. When I heard the news of his passing it
had been some time since I had talked to him last. In the weeks
before, I kept thinking I should call him, but I was terribly busy
at the time and things kept coming up and then suddenly it was too
I had no idea that last time that we spoke would be the last. I was sad when he couldn't make it to my wedding, but I was sure that we would meet up some time soon and that my wife would love him and he would be extremely impressed that I had roped such an amazingly awesome woman into marrying me. I couldn't have guessed that it would never happen in this life. I'll never forget my friend - his sense of humor, his warm kindness, his easy, fun-loving disposition.
All these years later and I'm still trying to forgive his killer. Maybe it was the first and last time he had ever driven intoxicated. Maybe he was distraught over some catastrophe in his life and his lapse in judgment would haunt him forever after the accident. I don't know anything about that guy. I'm not even sure if he survived the accident. But I do know that many lives have been forever changed by his careless decision to drive after drinking.
I know I hate alcohol. I know I don't feel even a little bad for people in prison for drunk driving. I know I miss Chris. And I know that now, when I get the feeling I should call someone and tell them I was thinking about them, I do it.
Thank you, Dale! I think of Chris quite often myself. It rips my heart out each time I do.
From Drusilla West Groce ('56) of VA - 01/06/18:
