NEWPORT NEWS - Laurie K. Collier, 70, died Friday, May 25, 2007. She was the widow of Richard D. Collier Sr., her husband of 38 years.

A native of Manteo, N.C., she was a Peninsula resident most of her life. Mrs. Collier was a member of Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church. As a teacher with more than 30 years of service in the Newport News Public Schools and Elizabeth City Public Schools, she was a business education teacher at Newport News High School and Menchville High School. She also served as a Business Education Supervisor and Director of Vocational Education for the Newport News Public Schools.

She was a member of numerous organizations, including the Virginia Business Education Association, Virginia Vocational Association, American Vocational Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. Survivors include a daughter, Laurie Ann Williamson and her husband, Randy, of Virginia Beach; son, Richard 'Rick' D. Collier Jr. of Newport News; brother, Patrick Kee of Homa, La.; and four grandchildren, Richard and Elizabeth Collier, and Skylar and McKenna Williamson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry J. Edmonds and the Rev. Kathy Julian officiating. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Chestnut Memorial UMC, 1024 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA 23601. She was a lovely lady with her whole heart into education and helping teachers and students. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
