Ronald M. Guilliams
PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY - Ronald M. Guilliams, age 63, passed away
on Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at his home. He was born in Newport News, Va. He was
the son of the late Albert M. and Lila Mills Guilliams of Callaway, Va. Mr.
Guilliams had a distinguished 35-plus year career in the Fire and Rescue
Service. It began with service in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Crash Fire
Fighting Crew at Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. Upon completion of
his military service, Mr. Guilliams was with the City of Newport News Fire
Service, the City of Alexandria Fire Service, and Prince William County Fire
Service. Moving into the Federal Fire Service, Mr. Guilliams was with the Panama
Canal Fire Service for 10 years, working his way through the ranks to the
position of Chief, followed by a 10-year tour with the U.S. Navy Fire Service in
Yokosuka, Japan, again, attaining the rank of Chief. Mr. Guilliams' last
position was as Deputy Chief Fire Marshall for the U.S. Navy, headquartered in
Washington, D.C. Upon retirement, Mr. Guilliams made his home in Prince Edward
County. Mr. Guilliams is survived by his wife of 41 years, Phyllis; two sisters,
Elaine Austin of San Antonio, Texas, and Charlotte Krell of Dallas, Texas; and a
brother, Charles David Guilliams of Arlington, Va. A funeral service will be
held at noon Friday, Oct. 17, in the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville,
Va. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in
Amelia. Family will receive friends on Friday 11:30 a.m. until noon. Shorter
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

His life was truly a life of service to others and to his family. He and his wife, Phyllis, were a very close team. She was the wings beneath his feet.
