MICHAEL C. CHRISTIAN

YORKTOWN - Michael Cornelius Christian, 43, entered into eternal life on Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at Riverside Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Newport News.

He graduated from Davis and Elkins College and received his master's degree in social work from Howard University. He was a member of New Market Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his father, Edward T. Christian, Sr.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, the Rev. Charles and Laura Goodman of Newport News; one brother, Edward T. Christian, Jr. of Dover, Del.; two sisters, Brenda Christian High of Norfolk and Sherian Christian Mitchell of Yorktown; one niece, Tracy High; three nephews, James Mitchell III, Guardea Christian and Giiehti Christian; one uncle, William Hooker; one great-uncle, Wallace Hooker; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at noon Thursday at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Family and friends are asked to assemble there by 11:45 a.m. on Thursday.

SUFFOLK - Dr. Julian "Dew" McKenney, Jr., 61, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. He was predeceased by his father, Julian D. McKenney, Sr.

Dew was a loving husband, father, and dedicated physician. His commitment to his patients and his community exemplified his character and his identity. He was a prominent fixture in the Holland community. His quick wit and compassion will live on forever. He enjoyed "tinkering" on his "fixer-uppers" and any other project he could find.

Along with his mother, Latrelle B. Dixon, he is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marie B. McKenney; two daughters, Marissa Marie Aguire and husband, Dan, and Julia Anne McKenney; brother, Kenneth L. McKenney and wife, Frances; sister, Diane Washburn; and many other family and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2014 at 1 PM in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. Suffolk VA 23434. Burial will follow at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2014 in the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 PM.

Joseph E. Pearson II, 41, son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Pearson Sr., died Thursday, August 4, 1994.

A native of Newport News, Mr.
Pearson graduated from Newport News High School, William and Mary with a bachelors degree and the University of Richmond with a masters degree. Mr. Pearson was self-employed.

Survivors include his parents, Jim and Elizabeth
Pearson Sr., of Newport News; two sisters, Ms. Mary Jeannine Pearson of Yorktown and Ms. Evie Pauze of White Marsh; two brothers, James E. Pearson Jr. of Newport News and John T. Pearson of Isle of Wight; one sister-in-law, Lynn M. Pearson
of Isle of Wight; two nieces and two nephews.

The family will receive friends at the FOP Lodge #25, 10740 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, on Tuesday, August 9, 1994, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to the National Eye Institute, Building 31, Room 6A 10, National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Md. 20892.

NORENE SMITH

NEWPORT NEWS - Miss Norene Smith, 44, died Jan. 28, 1998, at Sentara Hampton General Hospital. A native of Newport News, she had retired from Newport News Health Department, and was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by her father, Jessie L. Smith, and her mother, Martha L. Smith, she is survived by three sisters, Catrina Jones of Hampton, Jaumeadie Smith of Newport News, and Mae Wilson of Newark, Del.; and a devoted friend, Edward Ellis, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at Providence Baptist Church by Dr. Rev. James J. Gray. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Miss Smith will be placed in church two hours prior to the service. Family and friends are to assemble at 851 13th St. by 12:15 p.m.
