Here's a picture of him that appeared in the1959 Binnacle (A School annual), which is how I remember him.

Ray (Full Name was Raymond Samuel Dossett, Jr.) also was a graduate of the NNS Apprentice School.

He completed his time on 9 September 1960 as a Hull Designer. In early 1962, while already at VPI on educational leave from NNS, Ray received a Shipyard Scholarship.

Shipyard scholarships were generally awarded to Apprentice graduates who, on their own volition, had commenced college studies. Each winner of this award received full expenses for the remainder of their undergraduate studies.

Ray and I became friends while working on publications' staffs at the Apprentice School. He also was the first President of the school's chapter of Delta Sigma - organized in 1959, and a frequent supporter of the school's annual charitable works. I don't have all his credits at the A School handy, because I finished the year before he did and thus do not have a 1960 annual that would reveal that sort of information.

But I do know he was good guy, a talented designer, and an asset to the community
in the 1950s.
