Please Read -
Important Message!!
If you read the ALERT newsletter, http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/05-12-07-NNHS-ALERT-ALERT-ALERT.html you know by now that Wayne, Joe, and I have been engaged in trying to secure contributions from you, the newsletter beneficiaries, for Carol and Paul in order to see them thru the next twelve months. And to those of you who so generously responded, we would like to thank you on behalf of Carol. However, based on a lack of response from so many others, our collective sense now is that lot's of you are hesitant to contribute because you have generously done so in the past only to be confronted with a new emergency a short time later. We recognize that there are limited resources available for this purpose but we do want you to understand one very critical point. This appeal is the last time any of you will be asked for money on Carol and Paul's behalf. It is our firm belief that in one year's time, Carol and Paul will have in place a permanent solution to their financial issues. For Paul, hopefully that will be a new, well paying job. If that's not to be, then other means will be available where he can collect full social security benefits as he will have reached 65 years of age. That income could also be supplemented with part time work. Whatever the form it takes, the critical point here is they know that in twelve months they must become self sufficient again and they have the tools to do so. But, this plan is still predicated upon the assumption that enough newsletter patrons contribute to this cause in order that enough funds are secured to see them thru these next twelve months. So, if you haven't yet committed to our plea, please search your conscience one more time and ask yourself if you are proud of your decision, whatever it may be. And rest assured we know first hand that while some of you would love to help, your own circumstances preclude your doing so currently. But if your hesitancy is due to a feeling of "how many more times" will this happen, then make your decision based on the knowledge that after this rally is completed, you will never hear from us again asking for financial support. THIS IS IT. Again, as indicated in the ALERT newsletter, our goal is to reach 100 contributors with each contributor providing a one-time contribution of $180 or a pledge to contribute $15/month for 12 months ($180) total. No one ever said life was fair, although we all hope our friends will be. Thank you all for your generosity, your caring, and your faithful readership. ![]()

SELECTED RESPONSES:
From a Grateful Typhoon - 05/24/07:
Chandler:
Are you the one with the power of words. What
a beautiful way of expressing your committee's needs and tightening at the
same time. I was completely taken aback but you hit the nail on the head
with your remark about needing$ again. The plan is sound and doable . Very
admirable and thus I throw my check in one more time.
Sincerely,
P.S. I am sending Carol a note and a check for $200.00. I wish my name not
to be posted but as a grateful Typhoon for Carol's time and effort for all.
Thank you so much!
From a Big Fan of Carol's - 05/25/07:
Good Morning, Chandler,
First, I would like to thank you for all you do and have done for Carol and
the NNHS newsletter. Newport News and Hampton will always be linked as one.
I just wanted to let you know that I will contribute to Carol's continuing
problem and I won't limit myself to the minimum of $180.00, although the
amount is uncertain. Carol does such a great job and service, we ought to
make it her job with a salary. I don't have to see my name on a list, I just
wanted you to know that I have already sent her a check and that more will
follow. You, along with Joe and Wayne, are simply GREAT.
Take Care
Thank you, Sweetie -
for everything!
From Ed Nichols
('62) of Northern VA - 05/26/07:
Hi guys.
I mailed Carol the check today, Sat. May
26th.... Thanks for your effort in helping Carol and Paul. You guys stood up
when someone was needed.
Ed Nichols, NNHS Class of 1962
Thanks so much,
Eddie!
From a 1965 Classmate - 05/27/07:
Chandler,
Where can I mail a check? I do not use pay pal..... I would like to send $180 to
her in three installments of $60 each. That would be over three months starting
in June. I like the idea of the fund to tide her over the next year. I have
always sent at least $50 a year for the newsletter..... Would do more if I
could.
I can not imagine her panic. Glad you and others are organizing a more permanent
solution to this dilemma.
My donations will be anonymous, please, for the newsletter purposes. Sign it a
1965 classmate.
Thank you so much -
for everything!
From Bobby Turpin
('58) of VA - 05/27/07 - "TYPHOON LOVE":
Bobby, you always
seem to say the sweetest things - just what I need to hear, just at the exact
moment when it will mean the most!
Thank you so
very much - for everything
- and give Anne a hug for me!
From
Al Simms
('60) of VA - 05/27/07:
Thanks so much, All!
As you can see, I listed your name in both categories.
From Elizabeth Tedder Nunnally ('65/'68) of VA - 05/27/07 - "Reply to your
request":
Dear Carol,
I don't care one way or another if you indicate that I sent you a "love gift". I
sent it because I wanted to and you needed help. I will send more as I can. Hope
things are better for you and Paul! You are in my prayers.
Elizabeth Tedder Nunnally
Thank you,
Elizabeth!
From Joan Ownby Mathieson ('58) of VA - 05/27/07:
Chandler,
I want to thank you and the
others who are organizing this offering for Carol and her family. She HAS done
all of us such a service over the years. All we have had to do is sit here and
enjoy all her hours of work on getting the newsletters out for us to for our
enjoyment. She has made us a community of sharing and fellowship.....
I will send a check to Carol.
Joan Ownby Mathieson, NNHS '58 (Married to James W. Mathieson, HHS 56)
Thank you, Pretty
Lady!
From Terry Seay ('67) of TN -
