I just hit the 62 age on the 25th of June. I am going to
quit having birthdays; the numbers are getting too high.
Thanks, Carol, for the work you put into this.
Here is my e-mail for any of the friends that want to write me: firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Glenn Dye ('60) of TX - 06/27/04
Unlike you, I plan for my birthdays to be getting to be bigger and better celebrations each year. Yes.
Better food, bigger presents, more people, singing, dancing. Yes.
My 57th birthday is coming up on August 30.
I'd like something fun - say, a parade in my honor. Yes.
Of course, to use a Midwestern idiomatic expression, there are people down below wanting ice water, too. Sigh.
- Carol Buckley Harty ('65) of NC - 06/27/04
Not to worry - no one is going to shoot you for being late posting information.
I am amazed that you find the time to post any of this stuff, so in my book, you're great!
By the way, my birthday is January 6, 1952 (are you really gonna post the year?..ugh)
- Diane Sandler Marcus ('69) of MD - 07/21/04
We GOTTA have the year! That's part of the fun!
Trust me, Diane, in this group, you're one of the YOUNG ones! WILD GIGGLES!!!
- Carol Buckley Harty ('65) of NC - 07/21/04
I just read your update.
Thanks a lot.
Here are our birthdays,
If I do not do it now I may forget.
Have a blessed day and again we say thank you!
Kathy Presgraves Whitt - Class of '71 - August 8, 1953
James Timothy Whitt - Class of '66 - June 18, 1948
- Kathy Presgraves Whitt ('71) of VA - 07/21/04
Are you putting spouses on your birthday page also?
I noticed a couple and wasn't sure how expanded the page was going to be.
If so, Dale's is 7/19/36 and he graduated from Nakina High School, in Nakina, NC.
- Sandi Bateman
Chestnut ('65) of VA - 07/21/04
Thanks for the help – and yes, spouses are included, too!
- Carol Buckley Harty ('65) of NC - 07/21/04
Mary Frances Southall Waller - 2-9-48 NNHS Class of 1966 - I'll probably come up with some more!!
- Sarah Puckett
Kressaty ('65) of VA - 07/21/04
I love the birthday idea...........I was born December 31, 1944.....
I really like the birthday page.
- Susie Overton Jones ('63) of VA - 07/21/04
Thanks, Susie! So do I!
Very nice page. It will sure keep you busy entering data. It will be used a lot.
- Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 07/21/04
Thanks, Joe! I hope so!
Thanks for posting my memories. Wasn't high school a kick?
My goal was to have fun every day...funny thing, that is still my goal.
My birthday is June 25. Cannot believe I am 58 years old. In this old bod lies the heart of a teenager!
- Jean Poole Burton ('64) of RI - 07/22/04
Giggles! Thanks, Jean!
As I was reading
through some of the messages tonight on the birthday page
I read a note from Glenn Dye who just turned 60 in June,
and I thought, wait until you get to 62 and you look forward to that extra money from Social Security (SS).
You think you will have extra play money and what happens?
My husband, Tom, turned 62 in May, he (or should I say WE) just received that FIRST SS check this month.
He says, "what should we do with it"?..........
Well, I said, this month we have to pay your Mom's Caregiver services,
(she is 97, and living with her granddaughter in Franklin, TN)
and our son is getting married on July 24th, and we are paying for the honeymoon......
so I would think that should take care of this month check plus a few more.
It's like once you get your kids out of college you will have that extra money,
........but to no avail,.........there is always something else to spend it on.
Looking forward to seeing you in October at the Class of 1964 Reunion!
By the way, am I the only one born in December........come on, guys, own up!
I know Glen Davenport's birthday is December 10, 1944.... Angie, please verify!!
Sharon Weaver Knowles is January 1945, not sure of day.
Take care, have a great weekend,
- Susie Overton Jones ('63) of VA - 07/22/04
Carol, I was delighted to read people's (yes that is the correct plural
possessive. I too am a grammar anal-retainer.) birthdays.
I had a system and last weekend, I learned a new one. Here they are.
I used to say that (after a certain point) I could a add the ages of my children together
and they were greater than my number of years.
My son (36) and my daughter (35) = 71. And I will be 59 on 9/7. So I'm OK as long as their years are greater than mine!
(And every year, their column gains 2 years while mine only gains 1.)
Last weekend I was talking with a delightful French woman who is 87.
She enjoys good health, full mental faculties and I met her at a place in Williamsburg where I'd gone to hear a blues band.
Her system is to read from right to left. So instead of being 87, she'd be 78.
So I thought that was pretty good until I did my own and I'd end up at 95. That doesn't work well for me.
So I have revised my entire outlook. If your ones column number
(hang in there, math nerds, you'll get it!) is 5 or less, read right to left.
But if the one column number is 6-9, add your kids' ages. Actually, the 5 break point works for my age.
For those ten years younger, maybe the break point is 4 . . . for a few more years!
- Kathy Pilgrim Clark ('63) of VA - 07/22/04
Giggles! Thanks, Kathy!
I just added my
children's ages together: 33 + 32 + 30 + 27 + 24 + 20 + 16 = 182.
YES! I KNEW those guys were all older than I am! Oh, yeah - mental age doesn't count, does it?
- Carol Buckley Harty ('65) of NC - 07/23/04
Birthdays - Special days that we look
forward to and dread.
As they say, the options are not very attractive.
Keep up the OUTSTANDING work. . . .
- Jim Cobb ('65) of VA - 07/23/04
reminded of what my mama used to say when she reached her eighties
(she was just short of 91 when she died on 15 Feb 1999): "Don't get old!"
She was such a hoot! She'd stop young girls in fast food restaurants to impart unto them this pearl of wisdom.
We'd say, "Baba, what's the alternative?!?"
She'd just smile. I miss my Baba.
- Carol Buckley Harty ('65) of NC - 07/23/04
Hi Carol, Thank you for all that you do! All of your hard work is very much
appreciated by many of us OLD NNHS TYPHOONS!
Speaking of old, please add my birthday to the list -- 02-10-1947. It is a shame that we live so close and have not gotten together.
Have your machine call my machine!
- Mike Miller ('65) of NC - 07/28/04
Surely you're not implying that you're old, are you? You're only six months older than I am - and I'm still just a kid!
And yes, it's patently ridiculous that for the last 2-1/2 years we've lived less than
an hour apart and haven't seen each other a single time. We have to fix that!
Hi! Carol, I am enjoying this sight so much!
I think you DESERVE a parade. I would certainly try to get there.
Actually, it should be here on Huntington Avenue in front of NNHS -- even if it isn't used for that purpose.
It will always be NNHS.
I enjoyed looking at the birthday site. There sure are a lot of '47's.
You can add Jerry and me to that year. His BD is Sept. 25th and mine is Oct. 11.
I think you share a BD with Chuck Springfield. Marilyn (Payne) Springfield's is July 17th.
Gosh, I wish we could all get together for a group hug. :)::):):):):):):):):):):):):)::):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
Oh! Monty's is April 18, '43
Looking forward to the reunion!
- Judy Phillips Allen ('66) of VA - 07/28/04
Thanks, Judy! You made my whole day!!! Tell Monty Hi for me!
Hey Carol, My husband and I really enjoy your web site.
He went to Hampton High School. I told him I felt like a traitor. Ha! Ha!
Sure would like to see our birthdays on your birthdays link.
Mine is March 11, 1946 and my husband, Howard L. Williamson's, is December 4, 1944.
We really enjoy your NNHS newsletter and web site and we appreciate all the hard work that you put into it.
We will gladly join your parade any time.
We noticed that Sandi Bateman Chestnut's husband graduated from Nakina High School in Nakina, NC.
My husband has many family members that live there in that small community.
Two of his uncles graduated from Nakina High School. Their names were Roy and Ray Faulk.
What a small world we live in. Thanks for letting me share this with you.
- Shirley Caudill Williamson ('65) of VA - 07/31/04
Thanks, Shirley! I'm more than happy to add y'all to the Birthday Page.
The "smallness" of our world never ceases to startle and amaze - and delight me!
And thanks for joining my parade! Giggles!
I enjoyed visiting the birthday page. Please add mine as well. Dee Hodges Bartram, May 29, 1948.
As usual, you do a great job and it is very much appreciated!
- Dee Hodges
Bartram ('66) of VA - 07/31/04
Hey Carol, Just a note to say hi. Things are going well this summer.
We spent a lovely week in Folley Beach, SC. (32 people in one house for one week!!)
You can add me to the birthdates...10-21-47. Peace and love, Albert
- Albert Dorner ('66) of VA - 08/01/04
Thanks, Albert! That's quite a mind-boggling crowd! Hope y'all had fun!
Please change my
email address on the guestbook -
Also, add me to your birthday list : October 21.....
I love this website...you are great!
Fortner Langston ('70) - 08/01/04
The bad news is - the Guest Book is a world unto itself.
Sometimes it allows me to edit it, sometimes it won't let me in,
and sometimes it is more interested in giving me a "delightful" Trojan horse virus than anything else.
I recommend that you re-sign the Guest Book with your new email address until I'm able to battle the dragon.
I WILL fix it at my earliest opportunity, but that won't be for at least twelve hours, unfortunately.
Hi Carol - Re Birthdays - my name is Evelyn MAY Fryer Fish and I was born on May 1 - May Day.
- Evelyn Fryer Fish ('58) of TX - 08/04/04
Thanks, Evelyn! That would help to jog one's memory!
My birthday is
March 28, 1947. My maiden name is TEDDER.
I went to Woodrow Wilson Elementary and on to NNHS with the Class of '65;
got stupid and got married, quit school in Feb of 10th grade, had a baby, got a divorce,
got smart and went back to school and graduated with the Class of '68, went on to college and got married again.
My husband of 33 years also went to NNHS -- Harold "MILTON" Nunnally, his birthday is 10/15/47 --
yes, I'm older than he is for almost 7 months and I really hear about that!
He was in the 1966 class but just loved English and Government so much
that he came back for another year and graduated in Class of '67.
Hope this helps you find me. Let me know if you need more info.
I have been the chairperson for all of the 1968 reunions and have lots of information on that class--
reunions, addresses, e-mails, deaths, etc.
Tedder Nunnally ('68) of VA - 08/05/04
Thanks, Elizabeth! And thanks for solving that mystery for me! Isn't this fun?!?
Please add Bobby Turpin ('58) of VA - Oct. 25, 1940 and Anne Sawyer Turpin ('65)
of VA - Jul. 31, 1947 to the list of Birthdays.
Thanks, for being ever so faithful in producing such informative and wonderful information you receive.
I enjoy reading every update that is sent out and look forward to them.
- Bobby Turpin ('58) of VA - 08/06/04
Thanks, Bobby! It's always nice to know that I'm not the only one enjoying myself.
sister, Ellen Overton Weiss ('68) of VA ..... please include her birthday,
Thanks, see you soon.
- Susie Overton Jones ('63) of VA - 08/06/04
If possible, please add my e-mail
address, etc. to class of '65's e-mail list.
I have already heard from several '65 classmates!
Thanks for the memories!!!
- Elizabeth Tedder Nunnally ('65 AND '68) of VA - 08/07/04
Certainly, Elizabeth! Almost anything is possible, because I make up the "rules" as I go along!
YOU DO A MAGNIFICENT JOB! I have no idea how you do it, but I do enjoy looking
through it and seeing so many wonderful responses to you. It really touches the heart!!
Loved the Birthday page - just visited it today. Please add me to the list: 10-28-38
- Nancy Bigger Alligood ('56)
of VA - 08/08/04
WOW! Thank YOU, Nancy! It's just as I've always said - if you ignore most of the essentials in life,
you can just cut right to the fun! Giggles!
MY BIRTHDAY IS OCTOBER 24, 1946
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE TIME YOU PUT INTO THIS GREAT WEB SITE.
- Mark Friedman ('65) of VA - 08/08/04

Thanks so much for all the work you do...outstanding!! It is so nice that we can keep in touch with each other this way!!
Oh, I always forget to tell you..but my birthday is June 14th...Flag Day!!
I thought since you have my husband's birthday on the birthday page...mine might as well be there too!!
Thanks for everything!!
- Rosalee Wills Jecmenek ('65) of TX - 08/11/04
We have never met. I am Catherine Slusser Hudson Class of '64 NNHS.
I receive your news letter and enjoy it and your personal web site.
I just wanted to tell you what great job you are doing.
I also want to let you know some of the interesting things I have read on your sites recently.
Rosalee Wills Jecmenek ('65) wrote that June 14 was her Birthday.
I want to wish her a Belated Happy Birthday and to let her know that I also share a June Birthday.
It is June 4, and my first child, a beautiful daughter named Monica, was born on June 14, 1965.
It appears that June 14th is a beautiful day for several folks.
I also want to let you know that an old friend of mine and a childhood neighbor located me
through your web site and it was wonderful to hear from her after more than 30 years.
I also found out through E-Mail that she (Shirley Caudill Williamson - '65) lives just about 5 or 6 miles from me.
Your web sites are great for up-dating old friends and making new ones.
I hope I get to meet you at the Class of 64 Reunion, at the Omni.
Thanks again for everything you do and may God Bless your work. Keep Smiling.
- Catherine Slusser Hudson ('64) of VA - 08/12/04
You cut me to the quick! Of course we met - more than 40 years ago!
I remember you quite clearly.
I think we even shared some class or other (okay, I can't remember what it was....),
or perhaps you worked in the office where I'd have to report often for being tardy to school.
Anyway, the point is that I like to fancy myself as Totally Unforgettable.
First Bill Gruver ('62) couldn't remember me, even though we not only were in Band together, but went to the same church.
Then Dave Spriggs ('64) couldn't remember me, even though we were both in Miss Allen's D-Period Biology Class
AND I would almost run him into the wall on the second floor every morning before B Period heading
for the band wing because of my horrendous non-existent depth perception.
(All right, David, I'll quit beating the dead horse already - sheesh!)
And now you can't remember me either. Oh, this is just so sad, I must say!
Doesn't anyone out there remember me?
Just because I never came to school if I could possibly figure out some way to weasel out of it -
a self-induced "fever" with hacking cough, an asthma attack, an elbow ache, a big toe ache,
or my personal favorite, an eyelash ache.
Wit a minute
(Old Scottish saying not to be confused with "Wait a minute" - even though they
have the same meaning)!
If you really DON'T remember me, then you're not accustomed to my off-the-wall sense of humor,
nor my tendency to tease everybody, nor the fact that I'm actually too obtuse to take offense at things generally.
Maybe I'd better back off.
OH, wit another minute!
You say you're visiting my personal web site - and actually enjoying it?!?
I myself can't even stand to visit it, ever since Tripod took over Angelfire in mid-June
and distorted my lovely pages with their nasty obnoxious grey side bar of "related" sites.
Well, that's different! To quote Emily Litella, "Nevermind!"
Our Band Director, Mr. Wilson, and his wife were blessed with their first child on Flag Day of 1964.
My #2 Son, Brent, and his wife, Bethany, were married on Flag Day of 1996.
And let us not forget that Boy George was born on Flag Day of 1961,
and Donald Trump was born on Flag Day of 1946. Oh - ten days after you! COOL!
Speaking of web
sites, I really enjoyed looking at your photographs here:
And in all
seriousness (yes, sometimes it happens!), I'm delighted that people are
That is one of the major functions of this site, and I'm thrilled for each of you when I hear of its happening.
And I'm looking
forward to seeing you again at your Reunion.
One way or another, I WILL be there - for all three days!
And I'll have the biggest smile of all!
(Okay, well, some of that stems from the fact that I have the biggest mouth of all, but, ah, you know...)
- Carol Buckley Harty ('65) of NC - 08/13/04
I haven't contacted you lately as I was busy moving from Jacksonville
to the metropolis of Hawthorne, a small rural town east of Gainesville.
I bought ten beautiful acres for my eight horses and my wonderful better half, Charyl.
We are in the direct sight of Hurricane Charley so all of you say a prayer for us.
Regarding birthdays, mine is June 27th and Henry Hoyle, my old childhood chum has his on June 28th.
Take care and I have to go get ready for the storm.
- Jim Dick ('65) of FL - 08/13/04
Thanks, Jimmy! Our prayers are with you and all of y'all in Florida!
My birthday is Sept 27, 1947 and Alan's is Feb. 2, 1946.
I noticed you have our names added to your alumni list - thanks.
Also, we now live in Asheville, NC instead of Georgia as retirees. We love it!
God has been good to us and we have been blessed with a very happy life together.
We have very fond memories of our years at NNHS. You're doing a great service putting all this together.
It's a lot of fun and sad too (all our classmates that have passed away).
We hope to be going to the '64 class reunion this year.
Thanks for your work on this web site.
- Judy McCall
Nesbitt ('65) of NC
I hadn't realized you had moved, and had just caught my blooper when you found it first. Busted!
Move Heaven and Earth if need be, but do make it to the Reunion in October, Judy!
It is absolutely not to be missed, with surprises and treasures galore -
and that's not even counting all the old friends you'll see there!
If you're collecting birthdays, mine is January 28th. Jennie Sheppard class of '62.
You are truly a wonder.....what a wonderful site! How do you manage to keep it up?
My very best to you and all who are involved with the site. You guys are amazing......
Take care, Jen
- Jennie Sheppard ('62) of NC - 08/19/04
For the birthday page .... mine is 12/12/54 .... moving gracefully into the next decade.
- Tom Norris (HHS
- '73) of VA - 08/21/04
Thanks, Tom! You're the Baby AND Da Babe!
Please add my birthday to your list, September 14, 1946.
Also, add me to your list of admirers - a silent one until now.
I enjoy your site so much and it must be so gratifying to see how it has grown.
I hope to meet you at the reunion.
- Jeanette Parrish Houston ('64) of VA - 08/22/04
Thanks, Jeanette! I am continually amazed by the growth of the site, and the joy it has brought into my life.
I'm looking forward to seeing you again at the Reunion.
I've just learned to love you so much!
I am so glad you share your love for NNHS and all us Typhoons all over the world.
To think I have so many wonderful memories after 38 years.
Carol, we love you!
P.S. My BD is 3/25/48
- Bill Hobbs ('66) of VA - 08/08/04 and 8/23/04
WOWZERS!!! Thanks, Bill! What a day brightener!
Perhaps you could add as a new entry for the Birthday page:
Mr. Julius Conn, 21 October 1904
- Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 08/24/04
Your wish is my command, Captain! I spotlighted Coach Conn's entry with a different font, size, and color.
Thanks, Dave - what a great idea!
One specific birthday of note is:
that Mr. Mac (Mr. George McIntosh) turns 90 on the
17th of September.
If anyone wants to send him a card and/or note, his address is 2001 Camelia Circle
Midlothian, VA 23112. I think he would be more than pleased to hear from a lot of us -
he was such a great principal – just don’t find them like him these days!
- Thelma Spade Roberts ('57) of VA -
WOW! How wonderful! Thanks, Thelma! Card shower, anyone?!?
Thanks for the unbirthday wishes.
Do you remember FeedleDeDee and FeedleDeDum from Disney's "Alice in Wonderland"?
I think you must to have wished an unbirthday! They sang at the Mad Hatter's tea party:
A very merry un birthday to you, to me.
A very merry un birthday to me, to us.
Let's have a celebration
Let it be unanimous.
A very merry un birthday to us!
Where does all this garbage hide in our minds???
- Kathy Pilgrim Clark ('63) of VA - 09/08/04
Nay, not so! One should always remember the "classics"!
My sister and I never miss an opportunity to sing this song in its entirety to anyone -
in a VERY dignified rendition, of course!
- Carol Buckley Harty ('65) of NC - 09/09/04
Since tomorrow is Coach "Pete" Robinson's birthday (he would have been 83!),
I thought I'd ask you to put it on your birthday page. It's 9/10/21. Mine is 1/8/34.
- Mrs. Wilma Salmon Robinson of VA -
Why, certainly, Mrs. Robinson, I'd be delighted! Thank you so much!
I read your NNHS e-mail newsletter often; although I'm not a former Typhoon,
I've been married for 37 years to one - Jimmy DeBerry ('64).
He doesn't play on our home computer, so I read all the alumni news and relate it to him.
I actually graduated from Warwick High School in 1966, but always wished I could go to NNHS.
You are remarkable!! You keep the website up to date so well, and have touched many lives in the process.
God bless you for all that you do.
September 9 is Wayne DeBerry's birthday ('65); and August 19 was Jimmy's birthday,
as well as David Spriggs' and former President Bill Clinton
(they were all born on the same day in 1946!).
- Melody DeBerry
(WHS - '66) - 09/10/04
WOWZERS! Thanks, Melody!
Please add my birthday to your list: Nov. 12, 1946
- Jean Pittman Priest of FL - 09/19/04
Today is Charlotte Spade Wilkins' birthday. We celebrated many together growing up in Seven Oaks.
- Judy Phillips
Allen ('66) of VA - 10/09/04
Hey Carol, my birthday is December 2, and my wife Cindy's birthday is June 14,
We consider Cindy part of our reunion committee.
