From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auld_Lang_Syne:
"...
auld lang syne literally means "old long since", but a more idiomatic English translation would be something like "long long ago",[3] "days of long ago", or "olden days". "For old times' sake," or "to the (good) old days," or "To days (or times) gone by" may be modern-day expressions, in common use as toasts, that capture the spirit of "for auld lang syne". Although the song begins with a question whether old times should be forgotten, the song is generally interpreted as a call to remember long standing friendships.[11] "

From Linda May Bond Crayton ('66) of VA - 12/30/13 - "
Sylvia (Hall Hammond - '66)":
Dear Phil and
Sylvia, This may be bold of me but I would like to tell God of these two special friends I know. They are older now. Been married forever. Have friends that have lasted a life time and stand well in their love of His son, Jesus. Because of all these wonderful things, I know, He keep a regular eye on them with many good graces and great blessings. Nonetheless sometimes when it get a little dark their faith gets the least bit wobbly, not because they don't trust Him but because they love each other so much, when one hurts the other know their pain. I would like to ask you, God, to bend your head low and whisper, ever so gently, your love for their good life and let them know everything is going to be all right. Thanks, A friend. Linda May '66

From My Friend, Evelyn Dudzinski Griffis (Mars Hill HS, PA - '75) of NY -
12/30/13 - "Perspective":
A young couple moved into
a new neighborhood. The next morning while they were eating breakfast,
the young woman saw her neighbor hanging the wash outside.
"That laundry is not very clean; she doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap." Her husband looked on, remaining silent. Every time her neighbor hung her wash to dry, the young woman made the same comments. A month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband, "Look, she's finally learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this? " The husband replied, "I
got up early this morning and cleaned our windows." And so it is with life... What we see when watching others depends on the clarity of the window through which we look.
Thank you so much, Evelyn!

Auld Lang Syne
Words
believed to be written by
Robert Burns,
1788[2]
(25 Jan 1759 21 July 1796)
(There is some thought that Burns merely first recorded these ancient words
at that time.)
Set to the tune of a traditional folk song (Roud # 6294)
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne?
Chorus
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne.
We twa hae run about the braes
And pu'd the gowans fine
But we've wander'd mony a weary foot
Sin' auld lang syne.
We twa hae paidl't in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin' auld lang syne.
And surely ye'll be your pint stoup
And surely I'll be mine
And we'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne.
