We have more sad news today.

Dorothy Greenspon Erlach, mother of Judy Erlach Mirmelstein ('64) of VA and Mina Erlach Pearlman ('66) of VA, and mother-in-law of Ed Mirmelstein ('62) of VA, died in Charlottesville on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the age of 87.

Born March 8, 1922, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Minnie and Isaac Greenspon. Dorothy's fine artistic talent and her sense of humor will be sorely missed. A graduate of the Real Estate Institute, Dorothy began this career at the age of 60. She was a Certified Residential Specialist with GSH Real Estate. A past president of the Council of Jewish Women, Dorothy was also a member of ORT, Hadassah, and Rodef Sholom Temple. A truly gifted golfer, Dorothy was a past president of the Kingsmill Ladies Golf Association as well as the Brandon Garden Club in Newport News. Since 2005, Dorothy had been a resident of Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge in Charlottesville.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the care Dorothy received from both the WCBR Health Care and Catered Living staff, as well as from Hospice of the Piedmont. Dr. Joyce Geilker is especially appreciated for the wonderful support and care she gave to Dorothy.

Graveside services will be held at the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2009. The family will receive friends at the home of Judy and Edward Mirmelstein following the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rodef Sholom Temple or the charity of your choice.

Dearest Judy, Mina and Jody, I am so saddened to learn of Dot's passing. I have been blessed to have Judy and Mina as childhood friends and to have Jody be a friend of my precious daughter, Laura. Working at GSH and becoming acquainted and developing a wonderful friendship with Dot was the icing on the cake! Your family has touched me many times and in many ways. Your mom was an example of fairness, determination and love we could all take a lesson from. Her wit always made me smile. I pray for you all as you face your grief and struggles of losing someone so dear. Please know my heart is with you during this difficult time.
