      From Me ('65) of NC - 12/10/08:

  Bobby called me a couple of months ago - was it in August? September, perhaps? - as he did from time to time. We would laugh a lot, recalling the fun we had in high school, particularly in   Mrs. Baab's junior English class. We would talk at length of life and lost loves and religion and the economy and God and politics and the philosophies of men.  Very often we would cry together, as our hearts remembered    Rose (Woodard Davis Ficocello Groff) ('65) or other dear friends who had gone before, and opportunities lost, and deeds left undone, and words left unsaid.

   This was before November when we had so very many deaths, but there had been quite a number in a row. Bobby said to me, "You know, soon now, it'll be one of us, one of our own classmates."

   I said, "Yes, I know."

   After I hung up, knowing of Bobby's battles with Crohn's disease and leukemia, I thought to myself, "But not you, Bobby, not you."

   When
   Edna (Johnson Matthews) ('64)  passed away, his words struck me again.  They returned just last week when      David Smith ('64) died as well.

   And now, I can only think once more, "Not you, Bobby. Not you."

   Rest in peace, dear friend. I shall sorely miss you.

      From Wayne Stokes ('65) of VA - 12/11/08, 9:54 AM:

Carol,

I last spoke with Bobby awhile back when he was once again headed back to the Newport News area, I have forgotten the exact time. However, I did know that the two of you kept in contact through the phone conversations that you have mentioned in this newsletter mailing and I knew that you were good friends.

I am fully aware of how painful it is to loose a good friend and I extend to you my sincere condolences on the loss of your good friend, Bobby Yevak. Bobby was a fine person and will be missed. May your grief soon be overtaken by the fond memories you have of your friendship.

Additionally, and with the same sincerity, I send my condolences to his wife and family and pray that they too, will soon find understanding and peace.

Sincerely,

R. Wayne Stokes

   Thank you so much, Wayne Honey.

Amazing Grace

Words by John Newton, 1779

 Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound)
That sav'd a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears reliev'd;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believ'd!

Thro' many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promis'd good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who call'd me here below,
Will be forever mine.
