William Franklin Roady Newport News High School Class of 1960 |
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
I was deeply saddened to read of the death of
Billy
Roady,
Most
Typical Boy
in the Class of
1960,
who passed
away in Virginia Beach on Thursday, December 05, 2019 at the age of 77.
Billy and I were not in high school at the same time, but I came to know him when he joined my Newsletter subscriber list years ago, and enjoyed talking - and laughing - with him from time to time.

Pat and I went to visit Bill
Monday of this week while he was
still at Riverside. Bill was
alert and knew me as soon as I
entered the room. We had a great
chat catching up and I will
always be grateful that we went
that day.

Our sincerest condolences are extended to Billy's family, friends, and classmates at this difficult time.

Lyrics by John Henry Newman, 1833
Music by John B. Dykes, 1865
Lead, kindly Light, amid th’encircling gloom,
Lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home;
Lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me.
I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou
Shouldst lead me on;
I loved to choose and see my path; but now
Lead Thou me on!
I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will. Remember not past years!
So long Thy power hath blessed me, sure it will,
Will lead me on.
O’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, till
The night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile,
Which I have loved long since, and lost awhile!
Meantime, along the narrow rugged path,
Thyself hast trod,
Lead, Savior, lead me home in childlike faith,
Home to my God.
To rest forever after earthly strife
In the calm light of everlasting life.
