William Henry Cutts

November 19, 1933---November 30, 2011

 

He heard his Saviour call, "Bill, it's time to come home.
Your work is done your seeds are sown.
Heaven's fields are beautiful here,
Waiting for your meticulous care."

Under red skies a ship sails through the night,
With that old lighthouse guiding the way.
As dawn breaks with new morning light,
The beginning of a brand new day.
Port of destination is Heaven's Shore,
Her crew of one old sailor, weary and worn.

With a familiar "swagger", the chief steps to Hallowed Ground,
As all his loved ones gather 'round.
The ships bell rings, "Victory is won."
Through brilliant light Bill sees God's only Son.
Tears fall as They embrace,
"Son, you've fought the battle and finished the race."
With healing words so gentle and kind,
Jesus smiled and said, "When I was on the cross, you were on My mind."

As we think of old sailors and cowboys and such,
We'll smile and miss our dear friend, Bill Cutts.
Sometimes the world may seem a bit dim,
As we remember his mischievous grin.
With a gleam in his eye and familiar cowboy drawl,
He'll look back and say, "I'll be waiting for ya'll."

YORKTOWN - William Henry "Bill" Cutts went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, after a short illness.

A native of Weir, Miss., he had been a Peninsula resident for 56 years. Bill was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where he served as an usher. He currently served on the Board of Directors for the Newport News Credit Union. He retired from the U.S. Navy, in 1972, after 22 years of service, including the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Bill retired from a second career, in 1998, as a director with Newport News Public Works after 25 years of service. He loved to work in his yard and play golf.

Bill married the love of his life on Oct. 5, 1956, Frieda Beemer Cutts, with whom he just celebrated 55 years of marriage. Other survivors include his sons and their wives, Stephen Bradley Cutts (Betty) of Newport News, David William Cutts (Debra) of Yorktown, one brother, Dewitt A. Cutts (Jessie) of Mississippi; two sisters, Mary Frances Black (Bobby) of Alabama, Martha Long (Hugh) of Mississippi; four grandchildren, Shannon Beth Cutts, Jessica Leigh Nixon (Eric), Krista Nicole Cutts, William David "Sonny" Cutts; two great-grandsons, David Ayden Nixon and Kaleb Eric Nixon; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Liberty Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., at the church, with Pastor Joe Hunt officiating. Burial will be private.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the care and compassion given Bill by the CCU unit at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund, 1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA 23666.
