Dear Friends and Schoolmates, There is yet another Memorial Edition of the NNHS Newsletter. JoAnn Christie Hudgins, Class of 1956, passed away in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the age of 70. Her husband, Lewis Hudgins, is also a graduate of Newport News High School.

JoAnn Christie Hudgins
KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. - JoAnn Christie Hudgins, 70, passed away Nov. 25, 2008, after a long, courageous battle with dementia. She was born Aug. 7, 1938 in Newport News, Va., and attended Newport News High School. She was Vice President of Centralite Supply, co-owner of Saluda General Store and JoChris Designs. She was also a manager with Cato Fashions for 12 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Evelyn Christie; brother, Fred Christie Jr.; and in-laws, Lucille and Charles R Downey. JoAnn leaves behind her devoted husband of 56 years, Lewis Hudgins Jr.; one son, Gary Hudgins, both of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; one daughter, Christie Matthews (Carlton) of Gloucester, Va.; her grandchildren, April Rhodes (Marty), Megan Farinholt (Rob), Chip and Lindsay Matthews; her great-grandchildren, Tyler Brandt, Nicolas and Noah Rhodes; her brother-in-law, Butch Downey (Libby); sister-in-law, Sharon Splinter (Dick); many cousins, nieces and nephews and Abby; her loving Pekinese. The family will hold a private memorial service at a future date. Condolences to the family may be sent via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Uncle Lewis, I was sorry to hear about Aunt JoAnn. But I know she is in a better place and she is better now. I wish I could have come with Daddy. I do hope that you are well and I am thinking about you all. Love Christa
