Born on October 26, 1927 to J. Jac Bangel and Violet Goodman Bangel, he grew up in the Cradock area of Portsmouth.

He attended the College of William & Mary at age 16, earned his medical degree at Virginia Medical School, and did his internship at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

Upon earning his degree, he was drafted into the Navy in 1952 and was stationed on the front lines first aid station during the Korean War serving the 1st Battalion 1st Marine Division.

He served as president of the OBGYN Department at both Mary Immaculate Hospital and Hampton General. He was also a member of the Elks Club, and he served as Chairman of the UJA Campaign.

He and SueAnne moved to Williamsburg in 1979, and he became involved in the William & Mary Alumni Association.

Bill and SueAnne retired to White Stone, Virginia in 1990. He began building homes in the Northern Neck area, and he served as President of the William & Mary Lower Northern Neck Alumni Society.

He and SueAnne supported animal rights, and his dogs gave him much joy. He is survived by his wife, SueAnne, his daughter Eve Bangel Ware and her husband Michael, and their daughter Mauri; his daughter Billie Bangel Eisner and her husband Marc, and their son, Jacob; his sister, Pat Scher and her husband Stanley, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any gifts of sympathy be made in the form of donations in Bill's memory to: Animal Welfare League, 75 N Main St, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.
