Since I Fell for You

“So dear I love him, that with him all deaths I could endure, without him live no life.”

- John Milton
(09 Dec 1608 - 08 Nov 1674)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Hmmm - weird weather, tragic and scary news from all corners, sad song - it all fits.....

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Since_I_Fell_for_You

"Since I Fell for You" is a jazz and pop standard. The blues ballad was composed by Buddy Johnson in 1945 and was first popularized by his sister, Ella Johnson, with Buddy Johnson and His Orchestra. The biggest hit version was recorded by Lenny Welch in 1963, reaching number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.[1]

GLAD NEWS:

1.  From Phil Hammond ('64) of FL - 11/17/16 - " Sylvia (Hall Hammond - '66) has good news!":

Good news!!

Wanted to let classmates know what the scan showed. Mayo said that two of the spots have gotten smaller and the third one they can't even find now. Told me if I didn't have a history of cancer he wouldn't even worry about them but have to be on the cautious side with my history. Anyway I have a 6 month reprieve this time; never gone that long before.

Needless to say we are ecstatic with this report and can breathe a sigh of relief for now and really enjoy the two week cruise. I asked Phillip if he still wanted to marry me again and he said life would have been so boring if it weren't for me. We are leaving for Tampa on Thanksgiving Day to board Holland America the next day.

Bill Crosley ('64) and his wife who live on a boat will be here tomorrow afternoon, and Larry Boyles ('64) and his wife Pat are flying in tomorrow morning and they all will be staying with us for the weekend. At least now we won't be having a pity party for me and Phillip; we can enjoy them.

Thanks, Carol, for all you do,
Phillip and Sylvia

SUPER-DE-DUPER! Thank you so much, Phil and Sylvia! Y'all have some well-deserved fun!

2.   From Nancy Winall ('70) of VA - 11/18/16:

I would like to thank all of you for the prayers for my son, Dale. He is out of ICU and in a regular room. Hopefully, he will be discharged in a few days.

Thank you, dear family and friends.

EXCELLENT! Thank you, Nancy! I know you're breathing a big sigh of relief!

SAD NEWS:

  Butch Ragland ('63) of CO - 11/19/16:

We've received word that Butch passed away unexpectedly yesterday, which I believe was the same day that his wife, Ethel, returned home from the hospital following her successful knee replacement surgery. I have tried every way I can to pretend that this is all a mistake, but the harsh reality just keeps intruding. I am completely stunned. Butch has been one of my subscribers for over 13 years, and was always one of our biggest supporters in many, many ways. His family, friends, and classmates have my deepest sympathies.

Since I Fell for You

Written by Buddy Johnson, 1945
(10 Jan 1915 – 09 Feb 1977)

When you just give love, and never get love,
you'd better let love depart.

I know it's so, and yet I know,
I can't get you out of my heart.

You made me leave my happy home.
You took my love, and now you've gone,
since I fell for you ...

Love brings such misery and pain.
I guess I'll never be the same,
since I fell for you ...

Well it's too bad, and it's too sad,
but I'm in love with you ...

You love me, then you snub me.
But what can I do, I'm still in love with you.

Well, I guess I'll never see the light.
I get the blues most every night,
since I fell for you ...

Since I fell for you.
