HEALTH UPDATE:

From Cookie Phillips Tyndall ('64) of VA - 10/28/08:

Carol. for the website.

From Sandi Williams Patrick ('64) of VA to    Cookie Phillips Tyndall ('64) of VA and    Sue Miller Dearnley ('64) of VA - 10/28/08 - "Hi":

Hi, Cookie and Sue.

How are you guys doing?  I am getting stronger every day, but I get frustrated because my energy level is so low and I tire so easily.  I think it’s a lot harder to recover after the age of 60!

I want to thank both of you for your hospital visit, even though I don’t remember it.  They sure had me O.D.’d on Morphine!

I’m not sure which one of you put me on the Prayer List on Carol Buckley Harty’s website, but I’d like to have this UPDATE sent to her, if you don’t mind:

Sandi has received her very own miracle.  The tumor, kidney, and one rib were removed on 10/17.  Four days later the pathology report showed that the tumor was NOT CANCER, so follow-up treatment will be minimal.  The doctors, radiologist, pathologist, etc are all scratching their heads because there was “absolutely zero chance the tumor wasn’t cancerous at the time of diagnosis” (quote from one of the doctors).  The medical profession won’t admit it, but Sandi knows that all of the prayers that were offered on her behalf worked their magic and created this miracle.

Thanks, guys, and I can’t wait to see you again!

Sandi

What fabulous news! Thanks, Cookie - and CONGRATULATIONS, Sandi! I've updated that Roll now:

REQUEST:

From Rosalee Wills Jecmenek ('65) of TX - 10/24/08:

Dear friends and family,

I am writing all of you to ask a big favor for me....My son, Matt, is turning the big 40..on Nov. 1st..and I would love for him to just get a big ole pile of cards for his special day...I did this four years ago for his sister, Amy, and it was a great success....since Matt is my only other child, I won't be bothering my friends and family for something like this again...so please, if you can, mail him a birthday card around the 30th of October.. and he should get them on time!!  I hope he gets a lot and that he is blown away!!

I really appreciate each one of you who will take part in this for me...if you really don't know Matt, then just write inside the card that his Mom told you it was his birthday!!  I think it will be a lot of fun, and thanks so much ...I will REALLY APPRECIATE this gesture on your part helping me to make his day a little more special....

Lots of love,  Rosalee

Matt's address is:  Matt Souder
                                 3706 Ascot Lane
                                 Houston, Texas  77092

From Renee Helterbran Benton ('59) of VA - 10/28/08 - "ABC Presidential Test":

This is an interesting blind test.  See if you really agree with your candidate of your choice.

ABC Presidential Test

This is kind of fun, check it out!

ABC has a test at the address below  to see who's campaign statements, McCain's or Obama's, you agree with most. They don't tell you who made the statements, of course, but a statement made by each candidate on the same topic (economy, immigration, judiciary, etc.) will be side by side.

You just pick which statement you agree with and, after selecting all 13, you'll find out which candidate's philosophy you support.

Try it at:

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/MatchoMatic/fullpage?id=5542139

Thanks so much, Renee! I was gratified to see that my choices aligned with my chosen candidate's responses on ten of the thirteen questions.

From Joe Drewry ('58) of VA - 10/27/08 - "    Evelyn Fryer Fish on her NNHS gathering at the Canepa Buckroe Cottage":

Most of you are aware that Evelyn Fryer Fish and her husband Dick have hosted an open house for NNHS alums each Fall for several years.  The following email was sent to Carol Buckley Harty, webmistress of the NNHS65 site which covers all things NNHS.  The email exchange also includes the link to the NNHS65 which contains a wealth of information and photos that you will find of interest.

The class of NNHS58 owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to Evelyn & Dick for inviting us to join with classmates and all NNHS alums for this annual gathering.

Thanks so much, Joe! Ev's lovely and loving note has been attached to this year's Birthday Party Page:

http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/09-27-08-EVELYNS-PARTY.html

I had thought that surely by now I would have added more images for one and all to see, but I'm pedaling as fast as I can and seem to be stuck in molasses.....

From Sepi Dinwiddie Prichard ('58) of NC to     Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 10/28/08:

Bucky, I have renamed your sister,   Mary Ann !  It is now "Her Sweetness !"

Dimples

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 10/28/08:

Hi, Dimples:
.
How very kind of you to see the sweet side of my dear sister,   Mary Ann. I am so glad she was able to attend the party at Buckroe Beach.      Ev (Fryer Fish - '58 - of TX) is such a wonderful hostess.    Sandra (Canepa - '56 - of VA) would not take "no" for an answer when she encouraged Mary Ann to attend the party. She retired from the USAF the next Tuesday after many years of service.

I sure wish I could have been there. Nick Spanos ('56) was my old buddy and I would have loved to see him again.

On a positive note, Mary Ann sent to me two copies of the recent article from The Daily Press about   Julie Conn. So, I sent a copy of it to  Coach Bill Chambers along with a photo image of Charlie and Betsy Nuttycombe taken at the recent party at Buckroe Beach.

We just returned from a USMC Reunion at Parris Island to be greeted by a most beautiful letter from Coach Chambers thanking us for the letter, article and photo.

Seven Recruit Platoons were renamed "Recruit" to Marine and it was a great ceremony.

That sounds quite exciting on a number of levels, Joe - thanks for sharing that with us!

Did I make a wrong turn?

I mentioned that Eva (Ellis Madagan - '61 - of FL) and I had just returned from a Reunion at Parris Island. Our Platoon gathered after 51 years to enjoy our "Old Stomping Grounds" at Parris Island.

Here is a photo of my return trip back to Tampa Bay.

I made a left turn off of Interstate 95 South, and look where I ended up!!!

TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan (AKA: Bucky)
AKA: Adonis...more recently but not applicable!!!

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 10/28/08 - "Low Country Boil":

Hi, Carol:

The owner of "The Original Steamer Restaurant" on Lady Island, South Carolina prepared a buffet for the Reunion of Platoon 276, Parris Island, 1957 attendees. We had left the menu choices up to him, whose father is a survivor of Iwo Jima as a young Marine. He did not let us down, for the food was excellent as evidenced by the number who returned from seconds for this delicious dish, cole slaw, and hush puppies.

Not to be outdone by so many of the ladies of the TYPHOON Nation, here is the recipe for Low Country Boil.

From Norris Perry (Warwick HS - '59) of VA - 10/28/08 - "Re: 10/28/08 - We'll Meet Again":

Carol,

My great grand father was a corporal with the 59th Va Infantry, from around Gordonsville.  I'm sure I would have heard if there were any relationship with Poe sometime along the way - although I think his public image wouldn't have been very attractive to a minister.

GIGGLES! Thanks for that confirmation, Norris!

From Linda May Bond Crayton ('66) of VA - 10/28/08 - "re poe":

Hey Carol,

You're so cool! Thank you.

Note: Since Poe owned so many people and ran away, do you think that's were people got the term........Repoe!!!!!

Linda May ' 66

  No doubt! Thanks, Linda May!

Endless Love

Written by Lionel Richie, 1981
(b. 20 June 1949)

From http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/616995/top_10_sad_love_songs_to_listen_to.html?page=2&cat=33

"Endless Love (Duet between Diana Ross and Lionel Richie), originally from the 1981 movie soundtrack to Endless Love

"This song ruled the pop charts for several weeks in 1981. It's one of those sad love songs that really guts out your feelings
about losing your lover after a breakup, especially if you are still in love. When I hear this song, even if I'm not experiencing
a breakup, I'm made to feel so vulnerable because of the depth of emotion emanated by the pop icons Ross and Richie.
Endless Love
is one of my favorite romantic movies of all time, too."

My love,
There's only you in my life
The only thing that's bright

My first love,
You're every breath that I take
You're every step I make

And I
(I-I-I-I-I)
I want to share
All my love with you
No one else will do...

And your eyes
Your eyes, your eyes
They tell me how much you care
Ooh yes, you will always be
My endless love

Two hearts,
Two hearts that beat as one
Our lives have just begun

Forever
(ohhhhhh)
I'll hold you close in my arms
I can't resist your charms

And love
Oh, love
I'll be a fool
For you,
I'm sure
You know I don't mind
Oh, you know I don't mind

'Cause you,
You mean the world to me
Oh
I know
I know
I've found in you
My endless love

Oooh-woow
Boom, boom
Boom, boom, boom, boom, booom
Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom

Oooh, and love
Oh, love
I'll be that fool
For you,
I'm sure
You know I don't mind
Oh you know-
I don't mind

And, yes
You'll be the only one
cause no one can deny
This love I have inside
And Ill give it all to you
My love
My love, my love
My endless love
