Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
If you'd like to hear the Beach Boys
sing this to you themselves, it's one of those 21 songs included in the
NNHS Juke Box installed as a gift for us by my # 6 son, Dale Harty,
almost two years ago on the front
of the web page:
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/
From Dave Arnold ('65) of VA - 10/25/05 - "Pics":
From Sandi Bateman Chestnut ('65) of VA - 10/25/05:
Carol,
From Bob Allen ('51) of VA - 10/26/05:
I have a few people who want the web
site..My sister particularly asked for it...NNHS 1947
First: Pauline Allen Mitchell*(Richmond,
VA)--our dad owned Allen Jewelry (downtown
NN) Mr. Garland Reedy was the watchmaker before he opened his
small shop on 28th street; The Reedys and Allens have always been close
friends. ..all my brothers and sisters worked there at Allen Jewelry at
one time or another.
Second: Dr. Bernie Friedland.. Hampton optometrist, class of 1955 - NNHS which just had a 50th reunion and had younger brother and maybe a sister - says his brother (Frank) was in class of 1960....they grew up at 16th Street in Stuart Gardens...
Third: I just sent this to Steve Veazey
- Stuart Gardens resident as a kid - He must have graduated in about
1960...
There is a group of old NNHS athletes that
meet for breakfast once a month somewhere in NN..I have been invited, but
never could get up early enough to go...I will ask again, see who goes...
Enjoyed seeing your photos of the
reunion...everyone looked pretty good to my old eyes...
NNHS 1951 Bob Allen Thanks, Bob! We're always delighted to add new people! I remember Bernie and Frank and Steve very well. I was a Stuart Gardens kid myself. Frank Friedland ('60 - of VA) and the ever gorgeous Steve Veazey ('60 - of VA) have been on our mailing list for some time: I enjoyed talking with Steve this summer at his reunion (such a crush I had on that man when I was in the seventh grade!). http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/alumni-list.html If you'll send the others my email addy - NNHS65@yahoo.com, I'll be happy to add them as well. I really appreciate having the input of different perspectives. Thank you for the information about Allen Jewelry, for which you obviously have first-hand knowledge. When I catch my breath, I'll create that page to add to Our Old Stomping Grounds. I'm glad you're enjoying the reunion images, Bob, because there are literally hundreds more to come! |
From Kathy Pilgrim Clark ('63) of VA - 10/25/05 - "Reunion, etc.":
Carol, I am so glad to hear
that you guys had such a great time at the reunion and to see the
photos.
John (Bubba) Todd ('64 - of AK) is the cousin of my daughter-in-law Leigh, and I was pleased to send the picture of him with Joe Wingo ('65 - of NC) to her to print for her Aunt Lucille (John's mom).
My World Serious game 3 is tied
and about to go into the 10th inning so I gotta go and watch. I'm glad
all enjoyed the "Old Stomping Grounds Tour". I hope that all enjoyed
seeing the realities of today; I just wish they knew the politics that
got "Our Old Stomping Grounds" to where they are today. . . but that would
have required living here for the times twixt then and now.
KC We really missed you, Kathy! I'm so sorry you were unable to make it as you'd planned. I've barely scratched the surface on telling you the story of that fabulous Tour. Maybe next time! Thanks for checking in, Lady! |
From Eddie Perry ('65) of TN - 10/26/05 - "Reunion Pictures":
Thank you so much, Eddie - and Todd!
From Margaret Hoban Wilner ('65) of PA - 10/26/05:
Carol,
It was so much fun to see the pix of the reunion. Pauline (Collins Shofner - '65 - of VA), Becky (Crank Tench - '65 - of VA), Sarah (Puckett Kressaty - '65 - of VA), Jeannie (Collier Fitzgerald - '65 - of VA), Pam (Smith Arnold - '65 - of VA), you and Anne Marlow (Fitzgerald - '65 - of CA)... WOW !!! How wonderful to see those faces! It looks like a good time was had by all. Maybe next time for me. I just couldn't get away this time. Also tell Van (Rowell - '65 - of NC) that my daughter is a 'Carolina' girl and loving it. She has lived in Charlotte for about two years. Hello to all. |
From Renee
Helterbran Benton ('59) of VA - 10/26/05 - "Stollers":
"But Renee, you've raised a question in my mind. I always thought the
Stollers were triplets. Are you saying that the boys were twins and that
Nancy was their baby sister, and they all landed in the Class of '59?"
Yes, Bobby and Peter Stoller
are twins and Nancy is 1-1/2 years younger. I have no idea how all
three wound up in the same class ('59) at
NNHS.
AHHH! Well, thank you for clarifying that for my inquiring mind, Renee! |
From Jean Poole Burton ('64) of RI - 10/26/05 - "Yes,
Dale Mueller is still gorgeous...":
And always was...I have known him since
first grade when we attended Woodrow Wilson
together. Must have been something in the water on Sycamore Avenue that
produced beautiful people...Fred Mays, Cheryl Mays, Ann Webster, Howard
and Allen West, Elizabeth and Joyce Tedder, Janice and Joyce Payne...all
knock down gorgeous people!
You'll have no argument from me
there, Jean! Some of the prouder moments of my young life were when I
was spotted on a date with Dale Mueller! It was like an affirmation of
my worth and value! I may never have dated
And I didn't sneak out of my bedroom window at night to do it, either!
HEY!!!
Would someone out there please explain to To review: My mother and I shared a one-bedroom Stuart Gardens apartment at the time in question. The window in question was right by my mama's bed! I am such a wienie I can barely open a window, much less crawl out of one. And can anyone really imagine my doing anything - anything at all - silently?!? And it was totally unnecessary! My mother didn't believe in the principle of "grounding" children (don't even get me started on that soapbox!) any more than I do. She let me start dating when I was twelve, for Pete's sake! (My own seven little darlings had to wait until they were sixteen.) The only times she ever refused to let me go out on a date was when the fellow was on the phone and I was asking her if I could go out while furiously shaking my head "no". I had but four rules - which I strictly obeyed. One, I was to be home when I said I would, or call and let her know I was going to be late. Two, if my plans changed and we were going somewhere else, I was to call and report that as well. Three, I was not to ride in a car with anyone who had been drinking. And four, whoever was driving was not to be doing so recklessly, or I was to get out, phone home, and she'd come and get me. I'm certain that I was no little angel, but I'm just as certain that I didn't sneak out of my bedroom window at night to go meet guys! SHEESH!!! Hey, who were these guys anyway, Pam?! I wanna know what I missed! |

my ranting and ravings, I believe we're approaching a record length for this
Newsletter,

another day.

Round round get around

Get around round round I get around
I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I’m a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I’m makin’ real good bread
I’m gettin’ bugged driving up and down the same old strip
I gotta finda new place where the kids are hip
My buddies and me are getting real well known
Yeah, the bad guys know us and they leave us alone
I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I’m a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I’m makin’ real good bread
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Round
Get around round round oooo
Wah wa ooo
Wah wa ooo
Wah wa ooo
We always take my car cause it’s never been beat
And we’ve never missed yet with the girls we meet
None of the guys go steady cause it wouldn’t be right
To leave their best girl home now on Saturday night
I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I’m a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I’m makin’ real good bread
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Round
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Round round get around
I get around
Yeah
Get around round round I get around
Get around round round I get around
Wah wa ooo
Get around round round I get around
Oooo ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
