The Shadow of Your Smile

What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are
to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure;
but, scattered along life's pathway,
the good they do is inconceivable.

-  Joseph Addison
(01 May 1672 - 17 June 1719)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Every day's a good day to smile - especially if we don't particularly feel like smiling.

The song was introduced in the 1965 movie The Sandpiper with a trumpet solo by Jack Sheldon and later became a minor hit for Tony Bennett (Johnny Mandel arranged and conducted his version as well). It won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year and the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Just making true Southern country-style gravy and biscuits can take an entire morning...and we don't usually have that time! Y'all are gonna love this shortcut recipe!"

The Southern cooks in our test kitchen helped create a version that comes pretty close to that authentic flavor, but with a shortcut or two."

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 10/24/16:

Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear were having a great time chasing vacationers in a car as they were visiting Yellowstone National Park.

"Daddy?"

"Yes, Baby Bear?"

"I think we could be doing a better job of scaring these vacationers."

"But, Baby Bear," Mama Bear injected. "What more can we do?"

"Maybe we'd have more of an effect on them if we got out of this car and started chasing them on all fours!"

The Shadow of Your Smile

Music by Johnny Mandel (b. 23 Nov 1925)

Lyrics by Paul Francis Webster (20 Dec 1907 – 18 Mar 1984), September, 1965

The shadow of your smile
When you are gone
Will color all my dreams
And light the dawn

Look into my eyes, my love, and see
All the lovely things, you are, to me

Our wistful little star
It was far, too high
A teardrop kissed your lips
And so, so did I

Now when I remember spring
All the joy that love can bring
I will be remembering
The shadow of your smile
