DeLora MacRae Marlowe Dollar
(30 Nov 1948 - 23 Oct 2007)

Hampton High School Class of 1967

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I was extremely distressed to read this morning of the passing of   DeLora Marlowe Dollar (Hampton High School, Class of 1967).  I first met Lora 40 years ago, shortly before her high school graduation, and was always impressed by her gentle, loving, and gracious spirit.  She will be greatly missed by the many whose lives she touched.

From the Daily Press - 10/24/07:

HAMPTON - DeLora MacRae Marlowe Dollar departed this life to be closer to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007.

"Lora" was born on Nov. 30, 1948, in Columbus County, N.C., and resided on the Peninsula for over 50 years after her parents, Jesse and Edna Marlowe, moved to Virginia.

Lora was a 1967 graduate of Hampton High School, and a 1981 graduate of the Riverside School of Nursing. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, Lora became the loving caregiver of many patients at Riverside Hospital, as well as at residences, while she was employed as a private homecare nurse.

Central to her life and faith was Lora's membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She found comfort and spiritual insights through Scripture reading and by attending Sunday School. Because she loved spending time with her family, the grandchildren could count on her indulging them with shopping trips and baked delights she made at home. She loved cooking for family and was always challenging herself with new recipes. Over the years she took up a number of other creative hobbies like painting and photography.

Lora is preceded in death by her beloved son, Dr. Matthew David Dollar; and her father, Jesse Matthew Marlowe.
Lora is survived by her husband, Dr. James F. Dollar; daughter Katie Dollar Morello and husband, Chris; daughter-in-law, Darlene Dollar; and six grandchildren, Ashleigh Goss, Alaina Goss, Alex Morello, Kayla Dollar, Cole Dollar and Jesse Dollar; brothers, Dean Marlowe and wife, Eileen, Kimball Marlowe and wife, Cathy; sisters, Rae Nell Sams; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the nurses and doctors at Riverside Regional Medical Center, and Ms. Etta Banks, who helped take care of Lora at home.

Lora's friends and family will be received for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Todds Lane, in Hampton.

Donations may be made to the MCV Hospitality House (http://www.hhhrichmond.org/hhh/).

Where Can I Turn For Peace?

Words by Emma Lou Thayne (b. 1924)
Music by Jolene G. Meredith (b. 1935)

Where can I turn for peace? Where is my solace
When other sources cease to make me whole?
When with a wounded heart, anger, or malice,
I draw myself apart, Searching my soul?

Where, when my aching grows, Where, when I languish,
Where, in my need to know, where can I run?
Where is the quiet hand to calm my anguish?
Who, who can understand? He, only One.

He answers privately, Reaches my reaching
In my Gethsemane, Savior and Friend.
Gentle the peace he finds for my beseeching.
Constant he is and kind, Love without end.
