10/19/14 - NNHS Newsletter - I Still Cry

“Don't be ashamed to weep; 'tis right to grieve. Tears are only water, and flowers, trees,
and fruit cannot grow without water. But there must be sunlight also. A wounded heart will
heal in time, and when it does, the memory and love of our lost ones is sealed inside to comfort us.”

- Brian Jacques, Taggerung
(15 June 1939 - 05 Feb2011)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

This lovely sad song from 2001 (for which I could find no midi file) has been replaying in my mind all week.

Today would have been        my daddy's (the late Robert Buckley - John Marshall HS - '25) (19 Oct 1907 - 25 Apr 1960) 107th birthday.  I still cry sometimes when I think of him, too.

From Malcolm Davis ('65) of VA - 10/18/14 - "Typhoon SOS":

Polly's brother     Bob (Norris - '62 - of VA) has fallen off of the recipient list for your wonderful newsletters. Could he be placed back on the list please?
His email address is _______@___.___.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Umm. ah, certainly! Thank you, Malcolm!

This is what is known in strictly scientific terms as "SAY, WHAT?!?" For you see, Bob was never actually on my mailing list!

One year ago this very month, he fell blessedly and silently into my email account "as the dew from heaven distilling," but did not ask to be added to my mailing list. I then assumed he was one of the scores of alumni and others who have bookmarked that page, and prefer just to read the Newsletters each day (or at their leisure) without being annoyed by my daily announcements clogging their inboxes (as many more of y'all clearly prefer).

In one form or another Bob's been seen on our pages for several years. As his birthday was one of only five or six I could actually remember from The Olden Days of yore, Bobby's name was one of the first to appear on our Birthday Page when it was added to the site on 07/21/04, and we've been celebrating his birthday together every February 19 since then.

Of course you may find him on the Band pages, especially the 1962 page, as well as the Buckroe Beach Amusement Park Page within the Our Old Stomping Grounds section.

I've added Bob's name to the Alumni Page for the Class of 1962, and the Contact Page for his class as well, though his email addy will be kept private unless he gives me specific permission to post it.

   Welcome (officially) aboard, Bobby!

Happy Birthday today to   Danny Coleman ('63) of NC!

Happy Birthday tomorrow to Vera Lee Cutchins Hinnant ('57) AND    John DiGiacomo ('69) of VA!

   Happy Birthday this week to:

Thank you so much, Gentlemen! This seemed especially appropriate for today's Newsletter.

From Jamey Douglas Bacon ('66) of VA - 10/15/14 - "  Warwick High":

Carol, this is a picture of the Warwick HS SCA, 1959. The late      Norris Perry (Warwick HS - '59) (d. 07 Feb 2014) is at the bottom right.

Next to him is my future brother-in-law, Dan Adams. He taught English at NNHS 64-65.

Behind Norris are future judge J.R. Zepkin, Jim Maxwell, attorney Jerry Franklin.

Far left bottom is my sister Jeanne who is now married to Dan Adams.

If anyone wants the names of the rest I can probably give them. Thought you'd like the pic of Norris. He was such a fan.

Thank you so very much for this image, Jamey! I really miss Norris and think of him often. So many of my favorite people have passed on to the other side now.

I Still Cry

Recorded by Ilse deLange, 2001
(b. 13 May 1977)

I'm making flowers out of paper
While darkness takes the afternoon
I know that they won't last forever
But real ones fade away to soon

Chorus :
I still cry sometimes when I remember you
I still cry sometimes when I hear your name
I said goodbye and I know you're alright now
But when the leaves start falling down I still cry

It's just that I recall September
It's just that I still hear your song
It's just I can't seem to remember
Forever more those days are gone

Chorus :
I still cry sometimes when I remember you
I still cry sometimes when I hear your name
I said goodbye and I know you're alright now
But when the leaves start falling down I still cry

I still cry sometimes when I remember you
I still cry sometimes when I hear your name
I said goodbye and I know you're alright now
But when the leaves start falling down I still cry
But when the leaves start falling down I still cry
