WOWZERONI!!!  Congratulations and best wishes in your new endeavor, Kathy! Thanks for telling us!

I'm sorry for the blurring of your beautiful image; it arrived at only 120 pixels high, rather than the 650 pixels high I like to save images, so that when they click on the thumbnail, everyone can see it clearly.  I only enlarged it to 200 pixels high, but there was still some distortion.....

From Al Simms ('60) of VA - 10/16/08:

Carol and all,

Re the virus warning in the 10-15 newsletter.  Better go to the snopes site at the link provided and read what it says.  Although a real virus It does none of the dire things that are mentioned and CNN did not say that it did either.  Nor is it irreparable.  It is also very old and up to date versions of Windows are not even susceptible to it.  Any anti virus program will stop it too.

If you are unprotected with no antivirus program and a very badly out of date version of windows, then what it does do is to "hijack" your computer and allow a remote computer to use it to attack other systems.  It is not a good one but neither is it anywhere near as bad as what is stated.

BTW, I am sure that the person who submitted it did not create the phony info.  That is part of the forwarded email that she sent to you and I am sure that she was fooled just as others have been.

Al Simms
NNHS Class of 1960

Ah, well, Al, if you're gonna "cheat" and read the fine print! Ya got me!   I did click on the link and saw the "Status: Real virus", but I was both stressed and in a hurry, and proceeded with it anyway.  I was thinking at the time that I had been receiving many such notes over the past few months (years??), and that I must have some mighty fine anti-virus protection, 'cause it hadn't wiped me yet, and I never rebooted after receiving one, either.

   Thanks so much, Al!

From My #5 Son, Nathaniel Harty (Hillsboro HS, IL - '97) of IL - 10/16/08 - "Pictures from           Dale's (Harty (Hillsboro HS, IL / American School, IL - '02 - of MA) trip to Illinois":

Mom, thought you might like to see these.  It was cold, and we were headed out to drop Dale off at the event he was in town for, so we didn't get much in the way of pictures.  Considering we spent all of one minute doing so, it's surprising they came out as well as they did.
Wednesday, October 15, 2008 - Normal, Illinois....
Dale (#6), Lewis (#1), Andrew (son of Lewis and Mary), Joshua (#4), Elizabeth (oldest
daughter of Lewis and Mary), and Randolph (#3) Harty - and Becca Harty (youngest
daughter of Lewis and Mary) in the last shot

Oh, SUPER-DE-DUPER! Y'all DID get to see each other! Dale called me Wednesday from Ohio, and still wasn't certain it would all work so that you'd be able to meet together while he was making that uber-quick business trip to Bloomington-Normal. Three hours was not a long time to have together, considering that some of you had not seen him in six years ("A Long, Long Time"), but it was a great thing, nonetheless.

   Thanks so much, Faniel!
I love you and miss you all!

From ArcaMax Publishing - Health and Fitness - 10/16/08 - "Gold Gym names top 10 fittest presidents":

Gold Gym names top 10 fittest presidents

DALLAS (UPI) -- Officials of Gold's Gym say their analysis of U.S. presidents down through the years leads them to conclude John Quincy Adams was the fittest.

The fitness routines of the 43 men who have held the nation's top elected post were as diverse as their leadership styles, but Adams was noted for his more than three-mile daily walks and Potomac River swims. The sixth president lived to be 80.

The current president, George W. Bush, who is said to exercise six days a week and steers clear of alcohol and cigarettes, ranked second most fit. Listed next are Gerald Ford, who turned down professional football for a career in law and politics, and Jimmy Carter, who hunts, fishes, skis and climbs mountains.

Ranked fifth fittest was Theodore Roosevelt, who fought through childhood ailments and, as an adult, took up boxing, horseback riding and hunting. He is followed by Harry S. Truman, who played horseshoes, bowled, and also was a daily walker and swimmer.

Filling out Gold's Top 10 are Zachary Taylor, whose 40-year military career kept him toned; Thomas Jefferson, who rode horses, fished and walked; Herbert Hoover, who was ordered by his doctor to play tennis and volleyball and figure out how to use a medicine ball; and George Washington, who enjoyed jigs and country dancing to stay fit.

It's Been a Long, Long Time

Lyrics by Sammy Cahn; Music by Jule Styne

(Bing Crosby with Les Paul and Harry James)

Peaked at # 1 in 1945
Competing versions charted that year by Harry James (#1); Charlie Spivak (#4); and Stan Kenton (#6)

- World War II ended the month before this Crosby recording hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts in 1945.
Accompanied by Les Paul on the guitar, Bing effectively captures the swelling anticipation
of Americans regarding the imminent return of their boys from overseas.
The song remained on the charts for 16 weeks.

Kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Haven't felt like this, my dear
Since I can't remember when
It's been a long, long time

You'll never know how many dreams
I've dreamed about you
Or just how empty they all seemed without you
So kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time

Ah, kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long time
Haven't felt like this my dear
Since I can't remember when
It's been a long, long time

You'll never know how many dreams
I dreamed about you
Or just how empty they all seemed without you
So kiss me once then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Long, long time

It took some lookin' as there was a very cheesy version which kept popping up.

And then ..........
