White Cane Safety Day

Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn.”

- Elizabeth Lawrence
(1904-1985)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

C'mon, Sweetie-Pies, tell the truth.  Did you know that today was White Cane Safety Day?  Have you ever even heard of White Cane Safety Day before?!?  I certainly had not, and I am even mostly blind myself.  In fact, my vision is so dreadfully bad that when I mentioned in the Newsletter a few months ago that I was getting a cane to use from time to time, my sweet           #6 Son, Dale Harty (Hillsboro HS, IL / American School, IL - '02 - of MA) called and asked his siblings, "When did this finally happen to Mom?!?"

My own cane is actually for the joints I used to call my knees, which are now mostly dissolved or evaporated or wherever they went, but my eyes are pretty much shot, too.  But I digress.  Don't forget to do your homework.

From Nancy Mitchell Wynne ('64) of MD - 10/15/09:

Carol, what's the best way to send you these pictures I have of the NNHS 64 reunion?  Can I send them by CD to your home address?

Yes, ma'am, that would be quite lovely, thanks! My home address is no longer posted onsite, but it can be found the bottom of each Newsletter announcement I send you!

Also, how do I access all the pictures being sent in?

Fondly,

Nancy (Mitchell) Wynne

Oh, THAT! Well, that would require that your ditzy webmistess actually create the pages, save, crop, resize, compress, rename, resave, and post those images, but HARK! I think there's actually been a break in that right now! Keep reading, Sweet Nancy!

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 10/13/09 - "NNHS 64-45 REUNION - SATURDAY IMAGES":

As you might have guessed, I was much too busy on Saturday to take many shots.

OHHH, the rollerblading babies! Aren't they adorable?!? Thanks so much, Fuzzy!

     From Me ('65) of IL - 10/12/09 - "It's That Time Again! (Nag #4)":

Halloween is almost here.  Thanksgiving isn't far behind.  You know what that means, doncha?

That's right, it means it's time to schedule the Holiday Parties!

How many of y'all are planning class or multi-class events?  The Class of 1962 usually has one.  The Class of 1958 almost always has one.  Wouldn't the rest of ya'll like to get together, some day, somewhere - soon?!?  Lemme know.  No, I cannot make it, so I don't even have a vested interest.  I just like to live vicariously and pretend a lot.

FINALLY:

From ArcaMax Jokes - 10/14/09:

Father's Opinion...

4 years: My daddy can do anything.

7 years: My dad knows a lot, a whole lot.

8 years: My father doesn't know quite everything.

12 years: Oh, well, naturally Father doesn't know that, either.

14 years: Father? Hopelessly old-fashioned.

21 years: Oh, that man is out-of-date. What did you expect?

25 years: He knows a little bit about it, but not much.

30 years: Maybe we ought to find out what Dad thinks.

35 years: A little patience. Let's get Dad's assessment before we do anything.

50 years: I wonder what Dad would have thought about that. He was pretty smart.

60 years: My Dad knew absolutely everything!

65 years: I'd give anything if Dad were here so I could talk this over with him. I really miss that man.

Nightclub

As a nightclub owner, I hired a pianist and a drummer to entertain my customers. After several performances, I discovered the drummer had walked away with some of my valuables. I notified police, who arrested him.

Desperate for another drummer, I called a friend who knew some musicians. "What happened to the drummer you had?" he asked me.

"I had him arrested," I replied.

My friend paused for a second and asked, "Wow...How badly did he play?"

Blinded by the Light

Written and recorded by Bruce Springsteen, 1973
(b. 23 Sept 1949)

Recorded by
Manfred Mann's Earth Band, 1976
(b. 21 Oct 1940

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Madman drummers bummers,
Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin,
the calliope crashed to the ground
The calliope crashed to the ground
But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong,
play the song with the funky break"
And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride
Asked me if I needed a ride
But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
She got down but she never got tired
She's gonna make it through the night
She's gonna make it through the night
But mama, that's where the fun is
But mama, that's where the fun is
Mama always told me not to look into the eye's of the sun
But mama, that's where the fun is
Some brimstone baritone anticyclone rolling stone preacher from the east
Says, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in it's funny bone,
that's where they expect it least"
And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner,
watching the young girls dance
And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone, reminding him of romance
The calliope crashed to the ground
But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
Madman drummers bummers, Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round
With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin,
the calliope crashed to the ground
Now Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand
And some bloodshot forget-me-not said daddy's within earshot save the buckshot, turn up the band
Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong"
