10/13/14 - NNHS Newsletter - 239th Birthday of the United States Navy |
||
![]() |
“A
powerful Navy we have always regarded as our proper and natural means of defense; and it has always been of defense that we have thought, never of aggression or of conquest. But who shall tell us now what sort of Navy to build? We shall take leave to be strong upon the seas, in the future as in the past; and there will be no thought of offense or provocation in that. Our ships are our natural bulwarks.”
- President
Woodrow Wilson, 08 Dec 1914, An Annual
Message to Congress |

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Today's federal
holiday is brought to you by the United States Navy. Oh, of course, there was
something or other about a certain
Genoese
explorer,
and for you Canadians out there, it's also
Thanksgiving Day, but largely it's all about the Navy.
Hug a sailor today. Or salute one. Well,
okay, just thank one for their services rendered. I still would personally
prefer the hugging option.
I've assembled four truly special videos for you
- a birthday gift, as it were:
BONUS #1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85vsoVC98OY&NR=1 - Anchors Aweigh - full of surprises!
BONUS #2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AG18hA8H58 - Anchors Aweigh - US Naval Academy, 2006
BONUS #3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g-f5KBB6ps&NR=1 - Brief History of the US Navy, 2007

The really curious part is

Carol... I am sending some of the newsletter and web information on your website to some other Ferguson '73 alums. We are in the midst of starting to plan a mini get together (not an official reunion)... We figure that none of us is getting younger and two of us have had lots of health issues so this might be a good time... We ALL four got together for the first time since we all graduated at Todd Stadium in June 1973... Boy has a lot happened in those 41 years!!! Your site continues to be great. I have told people from all over to go to the NNHS 65 website... You are truly a blessing to not only this community, but to all of us who have had or continue to have roots to the entire community. Thank you so much for listing the Beth Moore and Rosemary Trible Woman's Conference that was held at my husband ![]() Between your putting it in your newsletter, and having a contact that put it on the sign at Towne Bank on Warwick Boulevard, and all of us on the committee putting up fliers all over the area and our pastor and several of us sending emails and letters all over, the conference was a TREMENDOUS success. On behalf of all of us at Temple Baptist who were on the committee, we thank you. Although I don't think any of us have actually sat down and broken down our members vs. the rest if the world, I would guess that it was maybe 30/70 or 35/65 members to non members from all over the area including Suffolk, the Eastern Shore, Williamsburg, Hampton, Yorktown and all over the area... Again, I am sure that your website helped, as did the help from Towne Bank. Danis... Can you please send this to ![]() ![]() And for some of you with the USSNN (SS 750) submarine committee... This would have been a good place to have advertised the 25th reunion in July... Oh well, the 30th will be here before we know it. Some of you are wondering why you are in here.... Please check this website out.... Carol is wonderful about listing things from all over.... And she keeps this going with donations... Which I will be doing shortly...I never sent her my birthday, but other people do even if they aren't from NN high school.. Carol.. We might do it sometime...... All you have to do us ask her to put you on list and she will let you know when a new one is added... She is so thorough!!!!! And a blessing to all of us!! I usually read them in bunches... Especially during the past several long months. FHS people......There was a good thing in there on ![]() ![]() Also, if you go to different sections, they have memorials, memories, etc. I got on it years ago... My coworker, another local, ![]() So I signed on... And like I said, that has been years ago... Anyway.. Check out some of them.... She also has great histories of songs, people, events 50 years ago, recipes, clean jokes ...an excellent publication!! ..... Carol... I just took out my checkbook write a token to officially thank you for everything you have done for me the past many years.... When you are up here sometime.. Maybe your 50th next year... We would love to meet you face to face! I feel like I know you and your family. Happy Pre-Sunday morning to all! Kitty and Terry |
Thank
you so very much, Kitty!

Little Johnny
watched, fascinated, as his mother smoothed cold cream on her face.
'Why do you do that, Mommy?' he asked. 'To make
myself beautiful,' said his mother, who then began removing the cream
with a tissue. |
