10/07/15 - NNHS Newsletter - Shirley Elder Tierney
Shirley
Mae Elder Tierney Newport News High School Class of 1965 |
Dear
Friends and Schoolmates,
I was quite saddened
this Wednesday to read this news.
Shirley
Elder Tierney, Class of 1965, sister of
Lorena Elder Smith ('60) of FL and Meredith Elder of PA, passed away in
her home in Burke on
Sunday, October 04, 2015.
Shirley was a North End girl and I was from Stuart Gardens, so I first met her when I walked into Mrs. Moser's Journalism class on the first day of eighth grade. I liked her instantly. She was bright and always happy and smiling, and my memories of her will always be so as well.

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He’s waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me.
Refrain
Come home, come home,
You who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!
Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading,
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies,
Mercies for you and for me?
Refrain
Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing,
Passing from you and from me;
Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming,
Coming for you and for me.
Refrain
O for the wonderful love He has promised,
Promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,
Pardon for you and for me.
Refrain
