09/28/16 - NNHS Newsletter - Early Autumn

“Then summer fades and passes and October comes. We'll smell smoke
then, and feel an unexpected sharpness, a thrill of nervousness,
swift elation, a sense of sadness and departure.”

- Thomas Wolfe
(03 Oct 1900 - 15 Sept 1938)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Can you feel the crisp autumn air where you are yet?

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 09/27/16:

I'm not the easiest guy in the world to get along with. So when our anniversary rolled around, I wanted my wife to know how much I appreciated her tolerating me for the past 20 years. I ordered flowers and told the florist to enclose a card that read, 'Thanks for putting up with me so long.'

When my wife got the delivery, she called me at work.

"Just where do you think you going?" she asked.

"What do you mean?" I said.

She read the card aloud as the florist had written it: "Thanks for putting up with me. So long."

Early Autumn

Music by Ralph Burns (29 June 1922 – 21 Nov 2001) and Woody Herman (16 May 1913 – 29 Oct 1987), 1949

Words by Johnny Mercer (18 Nov 1909 – 25 June 1976), 1949

Recorded by Ella Fitzgerald (25 Apr 1917 – 15 June 1996)

When an early autumn walks the land and chills the breeze
and touches with her hand the summer trees,
perhaps you'll understand what memories I own.

There's a dance pavilion in the rain all shuttered down,
a winding country lane all russet brown,
a frosty window pane shows me a town grown lonely.

That spring of ours that started so April-hearted,
seemed made for just a boy and girl.
I never dreamed, did you, any fall would come in view
so early, early.

Darling if you care, please, let me know,
I'll meet you anywhere, I miss you so.
Let's never have to share another early autumn.
