Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

This 1965 Beatles classic seems appropriate for today's Newsletter.

BONUS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWP6Qki8mWc - Help! - The Beatles, August 1965

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help!_%28song%29:

"Help!" is a song by The Beatles that served as the title song for both the 1965 film and its soundtrack album. It was also released as a single, and was number one for three weeks in both the United States and the United Kingdom. "Help!" was written primarily by John Lennon, but credited (as were all Beatles songs written by either person) to Lennon/McCartney. Paul McCartney reports that he had a hand in writing the song as well, being called in "to complete it" in a two-hour joint writing session on 4 April 1965 at Lennon's house in Weybridge.[4] He later said that the title was "out of desperation".[5] In 2004, "Help!" was ranked number 29 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.

The documentary series The Beatles Anthology revealed that Lennon wrote the lyrics of the song to express his stress after the Beatles' quick rise to success. "I was fat and depressed and I was crying out for 'Help'," Lennon told Playboy.[6] Writer Ian MacDonald describes the song as the "first crack in the protective shell" Lennon had built around his fragile emotions during the Beatles' rise to fame, and an important milestone in his songwriting style.

From Bill Black ('66) of GA - 09/20/16 - "NNHS Mailing List":

Carol…

I was trying to share those
Bonus Pics, the ones Chip Clark (20 Aug 1947 - 12 June 2010) took of Mrs. Barr’s French Class in 1965, and couldn’t open them. Jane Christian Dyer ('66) is trying to “catch up with everything” after the Class of 66 Reunion (and where were YOU?!?!) this past weekend, and I thought she’d find the pictures amusing.

At your convenience, could you contact her at this address: Jim & Jane Dyer - _______@_______.___ and let her know how to see them? Looks like she has to download something, and I didn’t want to tell her that if it turned out to be bad information.

Thanks so much! Hope you’re well, and survived summer. But now, thanks to a gas pipe break in Alabama, it looks like we’ll all run out of gasoline in a couple of weeks.

**sigh** Growing old ain’t for the sissies, is it?

Best to you and your huge family,

Bill

Oh, and FYI, I’m no closer to success as a playwright or a novelist than I was ten years ago!

SAD GIGGLES! Thanks, Bill! I feel your pain! I was too broken down to attend my OWN reunion last year, and another year just found me that much worse, but I'm glad y'all had fun!

I don't think you need to download anything to access that page, but just in case I included a direct link to it, plus added the images in question here:

It would appear that I inexplicitly had never made a Teacher Page for Mrs. Barr, so I just did:

Prince Protea Square - Help Me Make an Intricate, Collaborative Square - "Block 37 of the Block a Week CAL (hosted by Kimberly Slifer) is very special.  This square is a collaboration between one of our CAL participants, Virginia Burrow, and my little old self.  Based on my King Protea Mandala, this square is striking and surprisingly easy (once you get past the front post trebles). When apportioning credit, I feel it necessary to tell you that Virginia did the designing and I did the grunt-work. Why am I telling you that? Because I LOVE this square and when you are making it, I want you to remember that it was born in Virginia’s pretty head.I hope you really enjoy this week’s square! "

Help, I need somebody,
Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone, help.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me.

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
My independence seems to vanish in the haze.
But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I've never done before.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, oh.
