Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Ah, Gwen
Stefani - one of my favorites!
BONUS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHzOOQfhPFg - Just a Girl - No Doubt
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_a_Girl:
"Just a Girl" is a song written by
Gwen Stefani and
Tom
Dumont for
No
Doubt's third album
Tragic Kingdom. The song was
released in 1995 as the album's
lead single and helped the band break into mainstream music, peaking
at number 23 on the
U.S.
Billboard Hot 100. Upon release in the UK in 1996 the song only reached number 38.[1] However, after the massive success of Don't Speak the song was re-released and managed a peak of number 3...[2] The song itself is written about Gwen Stefani's exasperation over female stereotypes, portraying women as weak and in need of a man to look after them. This is evident from lyrics such as "Don't you think I know / Exactly where I stand? / This world is forcing me / To hold your hand." She explained her inspiration in an interview for BAM Magazine: "I wrote that because my dad got mad at me for going to Tony [Kanal, No Doubt bassist]'s house and driving home late at night. I mean, c'mon, I'm, like, going on 30 here! I wouldn't trade [being female], but I really don't think guys understand what a burden it can be sometimes...[5]" |

“In middle school I used to draw letters of the alphabet out of
contorted torsos, bodies, arms, legs. A rigid torso with one arm and one
leg extended at straight angles out would form a 'K,' for example. But
then I realized how silly that was. People aren’t letters, I thought,
they’re whole words. Words like 'Bob,' or 'Dad.' (By the way, Bob is NOT
my dad).” - Jarod Kintz(b. 05 Mar 1982) |

A man was the first to arrive at
work one morning. The phone rang and he answered. When the caller asked
for some specific information, the man explained that it was before
normal business hours but that he would help if he could. "What's your job there?" the caller asked. The man replied, "I'm the company president." There was a pause. Then the caller said, "I'll call back later. I need to talk to someone who knows something about what's going on." |

Take this pink ribbon off my eyes
I'm exposed
And it's no big surprise
Don't you think I know
Exactly where I stand
This world is forcing me
To hold your hand
'Cause I'm just a girl, little ol' me
Don't let me out of your sight
I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don't let me have any rights
Oh... I've had it up to here!
The moment that I step outside
So many reasons
For me to run and hide
I can't do the little things
I hold so dear
'Cause it's all those little things
That I fear
'Cause I'm just a girl,
I'd rather not be
'Cause they won't let me drive
Late at night
I'm just a girl,
Guess I'm some kind of freak
'Cause they all sit and stare
With their eyes
I'm just a girl,
Take a good look at me
Just your typical prototype
Oh... I've had it up to here!
Oh... am I making myself clear?
I'm just a girl
I'm just a girl in the world...
That's all that you'll let me be!
I'm just a girl, living in captivity
Your rule of thumb
Makes me worry some
I'm just a girl, what's my destiny?
What I've succumbed to
Is making me numb
I'm just a girl, my apologies
What I've become is so burdensome
I'm just a girl, lucky me
Twiddle-dum there's no comparison
Oh... I've had it up to!
Oh... I've had it up to!
Oh... I've had it up to here.
