My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

- Walt Disney
(05 Dec 1901 - 15 Dec 1966)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's theme song was one of the #1 hits from 1945 - and you know what a sucker I am for All Things 40's!

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Dreams_Are_Getting_Better_All_the_Time

"My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time" is a popular song.

The music was written by Vic Mizzy and the lyrics by Manny Curtis. The song was published in 1945.

The biggest hit version of the song was recorded by the Les Brown Orchestra with a vocal by Doris Day. Another charting version was done by Johnny Long with Dick Robertson.

The Les Brown/Doris Day recording was released by Columbia Records as catalog number 36779. The record first reached the Billboard magazine charts on March 15, 1945 and lasted 12 weeks on the chart, peaking at #1.[1] Although this record was made after the big Brown/Day hit,"Sentimental Journey," it actually hit the charts earlier...

From http://www.theguitarguy.com/mydreams.htm

"If ever this was proof that a song had the capacity to crawl in your head and stay there -- invited or not -- I would nominate this one. Though it did reach number one in 1945, it's rarely heard these days, in any form -- even on the oldies radio stations. I stumbled across it while looking for other songs, and happened to have it playing while I continued my search. I'll be doggoned if the melody didn't set up residence in my head."

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 09/12/16:

A young pupil asked, "Master, what is fate."

"Ah, my son, it is what has brought great nations together. It has made the world a smaller place in which to live. It has inspired men of worth to work endless hours. It will some day enable men to span the universe and light years of travel will soon become mere seconds in time."

"And that, my master, is fate?"

"Oh, fate! I thought you said freight."

My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time

Music by Vic Mizzy (09 Jan1916 - 17 Oct 2009)

Recorded by
Les Brown Orchestra with a vocal by Doris Day (b. 03 Apr 1924), 1945 (#1)
Introduced by Marion Hutton in the film "In Society"

Well, what do you know
He smiled at me in my dreams last night
My dreams are getting better all the time

And what do you know
He smiled at me in a different light
My dreams are getting better all the time

To think that we were strangers
A couple of nights ago
And though it's a dream, I never dreamed
He'd ever say hello

Oh maybe tonight, I'll hold him tight
When the moonbeams shine
My dreams are getting better all the time

Well, what do you know
He smiled at me in my dream last night
My dreams are getting better all the time

And what do you know
He looked at me in a different light
My dreams are getting better all the time

To think that we were strangers
A couple of nights ago
Though it's a dream, I never dreamed
He'd ever say hello

Oh maybe tonight, I'll hold him tight
When the moonbeams shine
My dreams are getting better all the time
