From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Try_to_Remember:
"Try to Remember" is a song from the musical comedy The Fantasticks. It is the first song sung in the show, to get the audience to imagine what the sparse set suggests. Its lyrics, written by Tom Jones, famously rhyme "remember" with "September", "so tender", and "December", and repeat the sequence llow throughout the song: verse 1 contains "mellow", "yellow", and "callow fellow"; verse 2 contains "willow", "pillow", "billow"; verse 3 contains "follow", "hollow", "mellow"; and all verses end with "follow". Harvey Schmidt composed the music.
"Try to Remember" was originally sung by Jerry Orbach in the Original Off-Broadway production of The Fantasticks. "Try To Remember" made the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart three times in 1965 in versions by Ed Ames, Roger Williams and The Brothers Four.....

09/12/10 - "Graveside for
Mrs. Martha Jo Milne":
|
Hi
Carol......as you have previously posted, Mrs. Martha Jo
Milne recently passed away and her memorial service was
held in North Carolina. She was the mother of Billy
(who graduated from Ahoskie High School in 1958,
just before the Milnes moved to Newport News),
Mary Ann,
'60,
Charles, '64 and
Eleanor,
'66.
There will
be a graveside service for Mrs. Milne in Newport News on
Wednesday, October 6th at Peninsula Memorial Park,
Garden of Devotion. Her ashes will be buried beside her
husband, Rev. William P. Milne. He was the most devoted
pastor of
Orcutt Avenue
Baptist Church from
1958 - 1966. The Milne family made an impact in this
area and we dearly loved Rev. and Mrs. Milne. He
married I thought if anyone wishes to attend this graveside service, the children would love to see you and it would be a tribute to Mrs. Milne to be there. Take care, Miss Carol.....you are the best.
Fred Mays of
Newport News, VA
Thank you so much for letting us know, Fred!

From Norris Perry (Warwick HS - '59) - 09/12/10 - "~Old Timers~ (#3 of 10)":
| Carol, Only one a day.
Two elderly gentlemen from a retirement
center were sitting on a bench under a tree when one turns to the
other and says: 'Slim, I'm 83 years old now and I'm just full of
aches and pains. I know you're about my age. How do you feel?' 'Really!? Like a newborn baby!?' 'Yep. No hair, no teeth, and I think I just wet my pants.'

Try to Remember
Music by
Harvey Schmidt
(b. 12 Sept 1929)
Lyrics by Tom Jones (b. 1928)
-
The Fantasticks,
1960
Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh, so mellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain was yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a tender and callow fellow.
Try to remember and if you remember, then follow,
(echo) Follow, follow, follow, follow
Follow, follow, follow, follow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
That no one wept except the willow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
That dreams were kept beside your pillow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
That love was an ember about to billow.
Try to remember and if you remember, then follow,
(echo) Follow, follow, follow, follow
Follow, follow, follow, follow.
Deep in December it's nice to remember it's nice
To remember altho' you know the snow will follow.
Deep in December it's nice to remember it's nice
To remember without a hurt the heart is hollow.
Deep in December it's nice to remember
The fire of September that made use mellow.
Try to remember and if you remember, then follow,
(echo) Follow, follow, follow, follow
Follow, follow, follow, follow.
