NEWPORT NEWS - Louise Kidd Thompson, a resident of The Chesapeake Retirement
Community and a Peninsula resident since 1922, passed away peacefully on
Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007. She was a graduate of Newport News High School and an
active member and officeholder in the Virginia Extension Homemakers Council
from 1959 to 2004. During her years with the 'Home Demonstration Clubs' she
was a tireless cook for the food-preparation and preservation program, as
well as, an accomplished needlewoman. Nearly everyone who knew her cherishes
fond memories of the delicious desserts she prepared and distributed in
friendship and love. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harry J. Thompson. She and her husband were active for many years in the Hampton Power Boat Regattas and traveled extensively in that pursuit. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and active in her Sunday school class as long as she was able. She is survived by her niece and husband, Jean G. Hill and Wesley P. Hill, great nephews, Barry P. Hill of Richmond and Thomas H. Hill and his wife, Beverly. The family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff of The Chesapeake, whose kindness and attention did so much to make her stay there, and especially her last days, comfortable. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Hunt of Liberty Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Published in the Daily Press from 9/10/2007 - 9/11/2007. Guest Book |

Shall We Gather at the River
Words and music by Rev.
Robert Lowry (1826-1899)
Shall we gather at the
river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?
Chorus
Yes, we'll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
On the margin of the river,
Washing up its silver spray,
We will walk and worship ever,
All the happy golden day.
Chorus
Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we every burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.
Chorus
Soon we'll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease,
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.
Chorus
