09/11/06 - NNHS Newsletter -
Patriot Day

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting
September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor.
We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember
the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children. ”

- President George W. Bush, November 11, 2001

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I think we provided you with a plethora of background information and related materials last year, so I'll just direct your attention there:

http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/09-11-05-NNHS-Patriot-Day.html

And PLUS (a delightful colloquial redundancy which simultaneously amuses and horrifies me almost as must as the increasingly popular "anyways") - now, what was I saying??  Oh yes - And PLUS you may listen again to Kate Smith's breathtaking, heartwarming, classic rendition of "God Bless America".

  From Al Farber ('64) of GA - 09/07/06 - "Remember 911":

  Thank you so much, Al!

REQUEST:

If anyone knows where to locate Jean Hooker Hanson (Hampton HS - '64), we've received an inquiry concerning her.  She was last known to have been somewhere in TX.  She had a brother, Richard Hooker, who attended NNHS; I do not know if he was younger or older than she, as I cannot seem to find him in the 1955 - 1966 Anchors.  (That proves absolutely nothing, of course.  We all know I could be staring directly at his photo and not see it).

If you know where to reach either of them, please contact me so that I may relay that information.  Thanks!

From Bobby Hilling ('62) of VA - 09/02/06:

Hi Carol,

This is a great way for all to recognize and remember September 11; and at the same time show our support for our troops at home and overseas.

My nephew's son, a 2005 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, is proudly serving our Country in Iraq. He and all the troops need and deserve our support.

Thanks for considering this to be posted in your newsletters.

By the way, a NNHS delegation walking together would be neat..

And, great appreciation to you for all that you do for us....Bobby

Thanks so much, Bobby!!! I seem to be too computer illiterate to figure out how to convert this attachment into a form I can use, so I just copied the information from it for now, until a later time.  I missed some of the graphics this way, but I caught all of the pertinent information.

From Judy Horton Lindstrom ('63) of FL - 09/08/06 - "go watch and listen":

In March, 2005, this song was performed at a Diamond Rio concert.  They received an immediate standing ovation, and continue to do so every time they perform it! Sadly, major radio stations wouldn't play it because it was considered politically incorrect. Consequently, the song was never released to the public. If this song speaks to your heart, share it with friends and loved ones. Then let us cease being the silent majority and join together -- not as a particular political party, but as Americans!

   Thanks so much, Judy!

In doing this, we seem to have done something I thought all along was possible, but never figured out how to do before. You'll need to stop the music on the Newsletter before you open this.

From Dave Arnold ('65) of VA - 09/10/06 - "Norris":

Today I ran into    Tom Norris (Hampton HS - '73 - of VA) at the Yorktown Kiwanis Car Show.  Tom is now the proud owner of a 1946 Chevy panel truck.  Get him to send you a picture.

Dave Arnold

AHA!  I haven't heard from that man for forty-eleven years, and was planning to write him anyway to see what was new.  So that's what's new, hmm?

Oh, Tommee!  You know we're gonna need that picture, doncha?!?  Thanks, Babe!

   And thank you, Dave!

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 09/10/06:

Hi, Carol:
Please thank    Joyce Lawrence Cahoon ('65) of VA for the outstanding reminder of how the little things affect our lives. What a wonderful illustration, and I am sure many of your subscribers were inspired reading her submission in this newsletter. Thanks for publishing it!

To follow up on the topic of showing respect for our warriors and remembering them,    Pam Smith Arnold ('65) of VA might consider placing Captains Laura and George ______ in the Army Historical Foundation Registry. It will memorialize their service to our Nation. Visit www.armyhistory.org to register.

Carol, I also hope that you will register your late father as well. There is no charge to register, and if you wish to add a photograph there is a $10.00 charge.
TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL

Thanks so much, Major Madagan!  You're an extremely thoughtful man!  I'll certainly try to take care of this with all haste!

From Sarah Puckett Kressaty ('65) of VA - 09/11/06 - "Prayer Time":

Prayer Time

Some one has said that, if people really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless. In W.W.II there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every day at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace.

There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America. If you would like to participate: Every evening at 9:00 pm Eastern Time (8:00 pm Central) (7:00 Mountain) (6:00 pm Pacific), stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, and for a return to a Godly nation.

Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have. Together, we "CAN" make a difference! Thank You, and God Bless America

   Thank you, Sarah Sugah!

God Bless the U.S.A.

- Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife

Thank my lucky stars
To be living here today
Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'll gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea

From Detroit down to Houston
And New York to L.A.
There's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say...

That I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'ld gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'ld gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
