Newport News High School Class of 1962

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   There is still more sad news today.  Carolyn McPherson Gregory, Class of 1962, passed away in Suffolk on Labor Day, Monday, September 05, 2016 at the age of 72.

From Frances Heath Scott ('62) of VA - 09/05/16, 4:15 PM - " Carolyn McPherson Gregory, Class of 1962":

Dear Classmates,

I had prayed that this email would not need to be sent;  however, God has his plans. Mac has just passed away at 4:00 p.m. She was in the hospital and all of her children were here with her. Obviously, arrangements have not been made. They shall be forthcoming, as soon as I am notified.

Love to all,

Fran(ces)

From Brenda Poole ('62) of VA - 09/07/16, 6:18 PM - " Carolyn McPherson Gregory, Class of 1962":

Dear NNHS Alumni,

Sad news, Class of 1962, Carolyn McPherson Gregory, passed away Labor Day to many, quite unexpectedly. Such a sweetheart! Information about her upcoming services are pending...

In the meantime, I am uploading one of the latest photos that her daughter in law, Photographer, Christine Parker Gregory, recently took of her and two of her eight grandchildren.

    Oh, Fran and Brenda, I'm so very sorry to hear this! Though I rarely heard from her, Carolyn had been one of my Newsletter subscribers for years. According to my notes, she and Doug celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in April.

   You and your classmates have my deepest sympathies on the loss of your dear friend.

Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

Words by Walter C. Smith, 1876
Music (St. Denio) by John Roberts, 1839

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish—but naught changeth Thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
But of all Thy rich graces this grace, Lord, impart
Take the veil from our faces, the vile from our heart.

All laud we would render; O help us to see
’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee,
And so let Thy glory, Almighty, impart,
Through Christ in His story, Thy Christ to the heart.
