Thanks,

Dave
captarnold@vprj.net

Friday evening we’ll meet at 7:00 PM at the home of    Lynn Walker Brothers ’65 and her husband Barry (York HS - '65).  They have graciously extended an offer to open their home for the event.  Light hors d’oeuvres will be served, and we would request a $5.00 donation to assist in covering the expenses for that evening if you attend.  The change in location was decided when members of the reunion committee thought the original location might not be as suitable for conversation as originally planned.  The Brothers residence is located at 304 Dogwood Drive, Newport News.  The telephone number is 757-595-4116.  We’ll post a map providing directions.

From Norris Perry (Warwick HS - '59) - 08/05/10 and 09/03/10 - "Vote for Grace (REPEATED)":

This is my daughter Laura's dog in a contest to be on the cover of a bag of dog food.

Vote every day for Grace. Thanks.

Oh, Laura is your daughter, Norris! Well, that makes it all the more important! When I tried to vote for Grace again today, I noticed the site was trying to pull a switcheroo on me. It tried to persuade me to vote for the wrong Grace!  OH, NO!

That's why I've included the link to all the candidates named Grace, along with the image of The Real Grace, lest there be any confusion. As y'all can see, she's a Weimaraner from Richmond.

http://www.adogslife.net/photo_gallery.php?pg=&limit=40&sort=tnid&type=tnap&field=dog_name&keyword=grace#14296

Grace is #1 in pet of the month: http://www.adogslife.net/photo_gallery_contests.php?t=1

and #3 in pet of the year: http://www.adogslife.net/photo_gallery_contests.php?t=2

  WOWZERONI!!! That's fabulous, Norris!

Vote early, and vote often - or at least cast your allotted daily vote!

From Wayne Stokes ('65) of VA - 09/05/10 - "Thanks!":

CBD,

I thank you for chasing away the gremlin that prevented me from receiving the NL. Although, I now receive it once and not twice, that's good enough for me--I know the site address!!

TC!
"R"

Well, dat still ain't right, Wayne Honey, 'cause you should definitely be receiving two mailings now, but I suppose all's well that ends well! Thanks!

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 09/05/10 - "     Donald Thomas White (Class of 1960) of VA":

Hi, Carol:

In an effort to dress up the Famous Soldiers
page on your website, an effort was made to secure a photo in Uniform of Donald Thomas White, but did not find one.

He is not a member of the website, Army-Together We Served.com.

Thank you for remembering the Military Veterans who also bear the name of Typhoon on your website.

TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL

Ja, I couldn't find an image of Donny in uniform either, Major Madagan; thanks for looking!

You could try emailing him at VMI and invite him to join A-TWS.  I'd email him myself, but you know how shy I am.....

From Norm Covert ('61) of MD - 09/05/10 - "Famous Soldiers":

Webdoll,

Congrats and thanks for your preemptive help finding the military record and adding
Donny White (’60) VA, to the Distinguished Soldiers listing. Brother       Harry (Covert) (’57) MD  reminded me Saturday of the VMI home page and his own esteem for Donny after his time of professional and personal interaction with the respected A.D.

For those who didn’t follow your links, here’s the salient military service info: “… After graduation from VMI, White was commissioned as a field artillery officer in the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. His decorations include The Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters. White and his wife, Bettie reside in Lexington….”

Certainly a Distinguished Soldier.

   Indeed!

In checking the site, I realized you had no picture of the late      Charlie Wiggins (’62) (14 Aug 1942 - 14 July 2004) accompanying his entry.

A few months after Charlie's July 2004 death, I extracted and sent a picture of a group of us Basic Combat Training heroes at Fort Benning’s Harmony Church, including Charles, brandishing bayoneted M14s for the photographer. Here is Charlie’s photo from the book. The bayonet photo may have been lost in the translation, er transition, of servers and other site challenges. It may still be in North Carolina. If you need it I can resend.

Norm Covert (’61) MD

   1968 - Ft. Benning, GA

I had placed it on the Memorial Page for the Class of 1962, but neglected to add it to his listing on Famous Soldiers.....

Coming to America

Written and Performed by Neil Diamond

Far
We’ve been traveling far
Without a home
But not without a star

Free
Only want to be free
We huddle close
Hang on to a dream

On the boats and on the planes
They’re coming to America
Never looking back again
They’re coming to America

Home, don’t it seem so far away
Oh, we’re traveling light today
In the eye of the storm
In the eye of the storm

Home, to a new and a shiny place
Make our bed, and we’ll say grace
Freedom’s light burning warm
Freedom’s light burning warm

Everywhere around the world
They’re coming to America
Every time that flag’s unfurled
They’re coming to America

Got a dream to take them there
They’re coming to America
Got a dream they’ve come to share
They’re coming to America

They’re coming to America
They’re coming to America
They’re coming to America
They’re coming to America
Today, today, today, today, today

My country ’tis of thee
(today)
Sweet land of liberty
(today)
Of thee I sing
(today)
Of thee I sing
(today)
