To All the Girls I've Loved Before

“You don't have to go looking for love when it's where you come from.."

-  Werner Erhard
(b. 5 Sept 1935)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's theme comes to us courtesy of    Fuzzy Turner ('63) of NC on 08/28/07:

Yes indeed, we were blessed with the absolute best looking ladies in all of Virginia. I delivered groceries for West Grocery by afternoon and delivered newspapers by morning.  Not only did I work, but I also got a chance to be up close to the "lookers" as they hugged me in lieu of a tip - girls like    Sharron Wanderer ('61),    Dimples Dinwiddie ('58),    Billie Jo Gills ('63),   Josie Morgan ('62).  And then in school the list continued with   Faith De Arment ('61),    Linda Booth ('63),    Lola Babb ('63),    Diane Rodgers ('63),    Susie Overton ('63),   Susie Jeffers ('63),   Marsha Leake ('63), Kay Gillespie ('64),    Jackie Belote ('63).

I must admit as a chubby SPD Brother I loved them all, but    Jerry Gammon ('63),   Howard Smith ('63),   Bill Barnes ('63), and many others would pop my balloon.

And as Mr. Nelson would sing with Julio, 'To all the girls I've loved before', I meant every word of it.

And I still do>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Fuzzy

      Thank you, Fuzzy!

PAGE HITS:

Hit #64,500 was made on Labor Day, Monday, September 3, 2007 at 10:25 PM by    Susan Whitcomb Harlin ('72) of TX.

From    Susan Whitcomb Harlin ('72) of TX - 09/03/07:

Hi Carol,

I think I might have been hit #64,500.  I went over to the main site tonight and that's what the counter said.  I sure enjoy reading the newsletters.  Even though there are a lot of people I don't know, every now and then a name is familiar and I feel like I'm a part of a big family.

Thanks for all you do. . .

Susan

Yes, ma'am, that is correct! Thanks for reporting in with your lucky win! (Of course, it'll be even luckier if I should actually whup out my crochet hook and thread and make you another ornament, hmmm? )

From Angie Ray Smith ('64) of VA - 09/01/07:

Hi Carol,

Although I haven't much time to spend on your website... I do enjoy it when I get the chance...which has been today!!!

Where is the information on the sustaining subscriptions???

It accesses both directly from the front page (about half-way down) and from the Site Map (very near the end):  I removed it from each Newsletter because I really began to feel I was so annoying people excessively with my continuing problems and repeated whining for "Money, Money, Money!" and (as someone mentioned) literally begging, that it became rather self-defeating.

**** Sustaining Underwriters and Emergency Responders****

 ● Sustaining Underwriters and Emergency Responders

Thanks to the untiring efforts of three Super-Wonderful Fellas (Thank you again - and eternally, Gentlemen! ), there was an enormous outpouring of lifesaving, deeply appreciated financial help.   Much of it was made anonymously.  Contributions are always needed and gratefully received, either by snail mail or by PayPal.

The Peninsula Sports Club honored
Coach Charlie Nuttycombe on August 1st.  Coach Harlan Hott was in attendance, as well as members of Coach Nuttycombe's family and many friends.  I threatened to wear my cheerleading uniform...but    Glen (Davenport - '63 - of VA) embarrasses easily!

6:28 PM - Glen Davenport ('63) of VA, Sammy Vreeland, and Coach Nuttycombe of VA 8:03 PM - Coach Harlan Hott of VA 8:13 PM - Angie Ray Smith ('64) of VA and Coach Nuttycombe of VA 8:14 PM - The Nuttycombes
Saturday, August 1, 2007

It was so good to see Coach Nuttycombe in such good health, and as sharp as a tack!  The picture of me with him was an attempt to get his comments on the page in my senior annual...beside the ones he made in 1964!!!  It was SO busy, and so many people wanted to speak to him...it didn't happen.  Mrs. Nuttycombe wanted them to scoot out of the Knights of Columbus Hall to catch, if possible, a baseball game in which their grandson was playing.

It was a real surprise for Coach.  He thought he was 'speaking'... and had no idea he was receiving an honor for his dedication to the youth of NNHS and Menchville, and his excellence of character.   Aren't we fortunate that we had such role models?!?

I appreciate NNHS and the education and support we received there...more every day!

Oh... I got on a roll!

Thanks, Angie! I added your images and remarks here:

Carol, on your pages, how do your update emails, etc?  I see on our Class of '64 contact list, there are not many emails.  I didn't know you had this type of page.  They would be very helpful to have sometimes when you are trying to make contact with schoolmates.  Does each 'class' handle it's own 'pr' about this?

No, ma'am, this is done on an individual basis, directly to me.  I do try to remember to share email addies with each class representative as I receive them, but it's one thing to have your email in the hands of a couple of chosen people, and quite another for it to be published online.  Some people are uncomfortable with this, so I require everyone to give me their expressed permission before I publish emails on those pages:

http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/SITE-MAP.html

     http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/contact-ALL.html

The only exception applies to those who have self-published their addies by signing the Guest Book.

Otherwise, you may write them a short note in care of me, and I'll pass it on so that you can establish contact - rather like Classmates.com and other commercial reunion sites, only free of charge.

Hope all is well with you and yours... all of yours!

Take care and be well,
Angie

   Thanks so much, Angie!

From Elaine Wilkinson Bracken ('61) of VA - 09/03/07 - "BABY'S FIRST EXAMINATION!!!"

This made me laugh out loud.. I hope it will bring a smile......

A woman and a baby were in the doctor's examining room, waiting for the doctor to come in for the baby's first exam. The doctor arrived, and examined the baby, checked his weight, and being a little concerned, asked if the baby was breast-fed or bottle-fed?

"Breast-fed, " she replied.

"Well, strip down to your waist," the doctor ordered. She did. He pinched, pressed, kneaded, and rubbed both breasts for a while in a very professional and detailed examination.

Motioning to her to get dressed, the doctor said, "No wonder this baby is underweight. You don't have any milk."

"I know," she said, "I'm his Grandma, but I'm glad I came."

It made me laugh out loud, too, Elaine! Thanks!

From Margaret Kailos Lee ('67) of NC - 09/03/07 - "NNHS Reunion":

From Ron Miller ('59) of NC - 09/04/07 - "Potentially baaaaaaad hyphenated last name! ":

Carol:

I was searching thru the marriage notices in the online Daily Press from summer '06, and noticed the marriage of a Miss Hooker to a Mr. Traylor.

Now there's a last name you wouldn't want to hyphenate!! (At least not in the wrong direction!!!!!!!!)  It took me a couple of minutes to stop laughing at that one.      :-o)

WILD GIGGLES!!! You know, Ronnie, there are just some unfortunate names out there in the world today! But this particular combo does leave one rather breathless, n'est pas?

   Thanks for the laugh, Sweetie!

     From Me ('65) of NC - 09/04/07 - "  Melissa Moody (67) of VA":

It was such fun seeing Melissa Moody again at the Reunion!. My mama and I used to give her a ride to Trinity Methodist Church on Sunday Morning back in the Olden Days.  She remembered Baba's little turquoise Renault Dauphine.  But she didn't remember when I told her that had this image of her from the early '60's which Baba snapped one day, and I myself don't recall the occasion.  I thought at first it might have been after church on an Easter Sunday or Mother's Day.  But it just dawned on me that I used to have a photo of Joan Levine taken at the same time (though I haven't seen it for several years), so that isn't right.
September 1960 Early 1960's
Baba's 1960 Renault Dauphine Melissa Moody ('67)

Now I think it must have been following some "Sunday best" school function in the spring of one of those years, but I don't know what and I don't know when - and y'all know how obsessive I truly am about such details!

Soooo, okay, Melissa, I'll give you a week or so to mull it over, and then I'll call you to see if you can identify those excruciatingly important facts for me. GIGGLES!!!

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 09/04/07 - "Possibly a New Page":

I came across other "treasures" as I was rummaging through a trunk at Mom's house.  They inspired me to suggest a new page to which subscribers could contribute:

"My Childhood Visits to Santa"

I will begin:

I would bet that many Typhoons (and Crabbers and Farmers and Mariners) have one or more photos of their visits to Santa.  If a few more are submitted, we can see if the Santa in mine resembles the Santa in theirs. My photos were not labeled, but I am guessing that the location was Nachman's. If other photos are labeled and the Santa is the same, then we will know.

Anyway, it should be good for a few laughs. Perhaps we can all submit funny captions to fit the expressions ... both ours AND Santa's.

 - Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 09/04/07

D

David, I may have mentioned this once or twice before, but you were one of the most naturally adorable little boys I've ever seen. Thanks so much, both for the images and the great suggestion!

I altered the name of the page ever so slightly.

Carol - I have labeled them all with names as I know them.  I will have more to send later.

Thanks:-) Marty

From Judy Hess Hodges ('67) of VA - 09/05/07 - "RE: Friday Night Pictures - Some":

Hello all,

I really hate that I missed the reunion last weekend....I'm sure all had a great time and it was an awesome event.  Just wanted to take a minute to say "Hi" to everyone and let you know that I would have loved to be there.  Wishing you all well..........

Judy "Hess" Hodges

From Deborah Massengill Gilliam ('67) of VA - 09/05/07 - "RE: Friday Night Pictures - Some":

I was not able to open this.  Anyone have any hints?  I have some to share also.  It was great seeing everyone.  Please add me to your news lists if you have one.

From David Whitley ('67) of VA - 09/05/07 - "RE: Friday Night Pictures - Some":

Me too, I haven't not also either, Deb.

I'm pretty sure this "so called link" was an evil trick thought up by Miss Smarty Marty to confuse gentle & naive minds like mine. Matter of fact, I haven't seen ANY photos of the reunion yet.

Sharon Adcock (Huskisson - '67 - of TN) did e-mail me & said she had seen some that      Terry Seay ('67 - of TN) had put on the 'net, but I ain't seen none - a - them too.

I'm fairly sure I was there, mostly 'cause my wife said so, but I'd still like to see some of the pictures just to make certain, because I think she tells stories sometimes.

cautiously, d

P.S. that TV up there at the top of my e-mail header thing, yeah, that one, bet you didn't know that's the same TV Dick Van Dyke used in the living room on his show. OH YEAH? IT IS TOO!

Suffice it to say that Marty's link somehow would not function for us.  I thought it was just me, but I obviously was not alone.

Thank you for your efforts, Marty; please try again, because I'm sure you took some great shots.

Oh, yes, for those of y'all who are trying to make some sense out of David's delightful nonsense, save yourself some trouble, and just enjoy a good laugh!

Thank you, David Darlin', you are a hoot!

From Sepi Dinwiddie Prichard ('56) of NC - 09/05/07 - "Monitor":

Carol...

I remember
Harry Covert  ('57) of Northern VA) and Jerry Hardin (HHS) getting together and putting out a paper called the "MONITOR" or "THE MONITOR" Late 60's I think. It would have been a success if it were just Harry...but, never mind, I just remembered: "If you can't say something nice about somebody, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL."

The paper was named after one of the "Ironclads" and it was a nice piece of work, Harry !  If it had worked out, Harry would probably still  be here putting out a weekly instead of the outstanding work he does now. I am sure Harry looks back and sees that things happen for a good reason. Congratulations on that very important failure, Harry !

"Dimples a.k.a. Sepi Dinwiddie Prichard

   "Verrry interesting!" Thanks, Sepi!

From Jennings Bryan ('42) of VA - 09/05/07 - "Remember":

Carol, AKA "Wonder Woman".

Does anyone remember Monty's Drive In on old Virginia Avenue, now Warwick Boulevard, the White Oak Lodge,  and Bill's on the curve on Kecoughtan Road.  The Palace, the Paramount, Gladys Lisle at the organ, the street cars, the circus parades on Washington Avenue, and the list can just go on.  Add your own and we will build a great bit of wonderful memories.

Have a great day;

Jennings @

OHHHH, Jennings, you're talking about my very favorite section of the website - Our Old Stomping Grounds!

And it's interesting that you should mention the White Oak Lodge.  While at the 1967 Reunion weekend, we stopped for breakfast Saturday morning at the Oasis (because that is what we do!).  I saw it looking sad and closed, and realized we had neither image nor page for it as yet.  I started to go back and grab the shot, but then I realized that Our Wizard of Wonderment,        Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA, could do a far better job of that (and wouldn't come as near getting hit by passing traffic as I!), should he find time to do so.

   Oh, Da-vid.....

   Thanks, Jennings!

To All the Girls I've Loved Before

Lyrics and Music by Willie Nelson, 1984

To all the girls I've loved before
Who traveled in and out my door
I'm glad they came along
I dedicate this song
To all the girls I've loved before
To all the girls I once caressed
And may I say I've held the best
For helping me to grow
I owe a lot I know
To all the girls I've loved before
The winds of change are always blowing
And every time I try to stay
The winds of change continue blowing
And they just carry me away
To all the girls who shared my life
Who now are someone else's wives
I'm glad they came along
I dedicate this song
To all the girls I've loved before
To all the girls who cared for me
Who filled my nights with ecstasy
They live within my heart
I'll always be a part
Of all the girls I've loved before
The winds of change are always blowing
And every time I try to stay
The winds of change continue blowing
And they just carry me away
To all the girls we've loved before
Who traveled in and out our doors
We're glad they came along
We dedicate this song
To all the girls we've loved before
To all the girls we've loved before
Who traveled in and out our doors
We're glad they came along
We dedicate this song
To all the girls we've loved before
