09/04/16 - NNHS Newsletter - It's Four in the Morning

“I've got all the money I'll ever need, if I die by four o'clock.”

Henny Youngman
(16 Mar 1906 - 24 Feb 1998)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's Newsletter theme is sadly suggestive of my new sleeping patterns. I rather like the old (a.k.a. "normal") way better......

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_Four_in_the_Morning

"It's Four in the Morning" (also known as "Four in the Morning") is a song made famous by the country music singer, Faron Young. Originally released in 1971, the song became his first No. 1 hit single on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart since 1961's "Hello Walls."[1] The song was written by Jerry Chesnut.[1]

The song was the title track to his 1971 album and became one of his best-known hits. It was also a major smash in the UK, somewhat rare for a country song, peaking at No. 3 in the UK Singles Chart in July 1972.[1]

Its pop-crossover impact at home was far more minor, barely scraping the bottom of the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 92. It sold over 500,000 copies in the UK, and 750,000 in North America by early 1973, earning Young a gold disc awarded by the RIAA.[1]

"It's Four in the Morning" has also sealed a place in country music history. A live performance video clip of Young singing the song was the first music video to air on CMT when the cable television channel first launched on March 5, 1983 as CMTV.

It's Four in the Morning

Words and Music by Jerry Chesnut

Recorded by Faron Young, 1971

It's four in the mornin' and once more the dawnin'
Just woke up the wanting in me
Wishin' I'd never met her, knowing if I'd forget her
How much better off she would be

The longer I hold on and the longer this goes on
The harder that it's gonna be
But it's four in the mornin' and once more the dawnin'
Just woke up the wanting in me-ee

I never deserved her, God knows when I hurt her
That's the last thing that I want to do
She tries but she can't tell how she feels
But I know too well what she's goin' through

If I love her so much, I don't know why I can't do
The right thing and just let her be
But it's four in the mornin' and once more the dawnin'
Just woke up the wanting in me-ee

Last night I told her this time it's all over
Makin' ten times I told her goodbye
Last night we broke up, this mornin' I woke up
And for the tenth time I'm changin' my mind

I saw more love in her eyes when I left her
Than most foolish men will ever see
And it's four in the mornin' and once more the dawnin'
Just woke up the wa-anting in me-ee

It's four in the mornin' and once more the dawnin'
Just woke up the wanting in me
Wishin' I'd never met her [fade]
