From Wayne Stokes ('65) of VA - 08/30/05:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! That's the good news; the bad news: YOU'RE NOW AS OLD AS I AM!!!
GIGGLES! Thanks, Wayne Honey!
That's not so bad; it seems to work just fine for you, and as you know -
"I'm still just a kid!"
From Jean Poole Burton ('64) of RI - 08/31/05:
Dear Carol,
Even though this
is late I want to wish you a Happy Birthday and a happy year...filled with all
the good things,
love, joy, and peace, friends and family. Those are the things that matter.
Thank you again for all that you
have done to bind us together, Typhoons forever...none of my friends can
comprehend this network that I
talk about...Many more happy birthdays to come.
Love, Jean (Poole) Burton '64
Oh, WOW, Jean! You made
me all "chokey" Thanks so much! We do have some something special
here, and
if it's not always readily understood, that's sad. But I'm so glad we have
it!

Speaking of which.....
From My Niece, Shari of VA - 08/30/05:
There are various

help those affected by hurricane Katrina,
if you’ll scroll down. PLEASE PASS ON.
Have a nice night,
Shari
Thanks so much, Shari! This is easy enough for all of us to do!
Now is definitely a time to act and do whatever it is you feel inspired to do to make a difference.
The Red Cross is a great place to start:
From Janice McCain Rose ('65) of VA - 08/30/05 - "Help the Animals":
My sweet daughter-in-law, Karen,
thought that I should send a picture from the hurricane site...(I thought the
picture
of my dog looking sad would appeal)...however, the tragic story needs to get
everyone's attention......the attached
picture is a perfect example of one of the animals in distress and in need of
rescue.......please help if you can...
Thanks, Janice. How tragic this
situation is - for so many! Please help!
By the way, Janice, your pretty little puppy dog is precious! Thanks for sending her picture!
From Jo Ann Stewart ('64) of TX - 08/30/05:
Hi Carol -
Didn't know you were back "on" so I checked - Yea!!.
Haven't gotten a newsletter so you must be using my
work addy which doesn't work very well - too many filters on it. Be sure and
send them to ..... I missed you!!!!
Regards,
Jo Ann Stewart
Hey,
Jo Ann! I'm glad you found us again! I switched your email addy
accordingly. You only missed about 15
Newsletters; it shouldn't take you
too long - GIGGLES!!!
Thanks for looking. I was gone so long I was afraid everyone would have lost interest permanently.

OHHHH, David - it's beautiful!!! Thank you so much!
I left these images
uncompressed so that they might be more easily read, enjoyed, and relived, and I
gave
them top billing on the Buckroe Beach page:

Up on the Roof
Written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King
Peaked at # 5
in 1963
Later covered as minor Top 100 singles by The Cryan' Shames in 1968
and by Laura Nyro in 1970:
by James Taylor as a slower-paced Top 30 pop version in 1979.
Also covered as album tracks by co-songwriter Carole King in 1970
[Carole King Writer CD] and by Neil Diamond in 1993 [Neil Diamond Up on the Roof
CD].
(The Drifters)
When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space
On the roof, it's peaceful as can be
And there the world below can't bother me
Let me tell you now
When I come home feelin' tired and beat
I go up where the air is fresh and sweet (up on the roof)
I get away from the hustling crowd
And all that rat-race noise down in the street (up on the roof)
On the roof, the only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
Let's go up on the roof (up on the roof)
brief instrumental-chiefly strings
At night the stars put on a show for free
And, darling, you can share it all with me
I keep a-tellin' you
Right smack dab in the middle of town
I've found a paradise that's trouble proof (up on the roof)
And if this world starts getting you down
There's room enough for two
Up on the roof (up on the roof)
Up on the roo-oo-oof (up on the roof)
Oh, come on, baby (up on the roof)
Oh, come on, honey (up on the roof)
FADE
Everything is all right (up on the roof)
