       From Bill Lee (Warwick HS - '54) of NC - 08/29/09 - " Miss Mary A. Helmer":

Here's a little more info for your nice page remembering Miss Helmer.

She was a teacher at Warwick High School in 1950 and 1951 (perhaps earlier, but my info dates back to 1950 annual, in which her picture appears in the faculty section).

She taught Journalism (I know) and English (I think). She was also the school newspaper's sponsor, and this image of her with newspaper's co-editors appears in the 1951 annual (as well as a posed one in the faculty section):

I had to get her permission to take Journalism in 1952, but when that school year rolled around, she was no longer on the WHS faculty.

WOWZERS!!! I certainly did not know that! Thanks so much, Bill! I've added this to her page:

  'In God We Trust'

A timely thought:

Some folks passing through Texarkana last week noted signs in people's yards that said, "America, prayer is our only hope" with 2 Chron. 7:14 underneath. We certainly need God's help!

I have no idea who started this, but I certainly agree with this e-mail. I heard a preacher say, "If we pray for our nation, things will turn around".

I have decided to reach out to my friends and relatives and ask you to do something that has been troubling me for a long time.

Our nation is/has been on the slippery slope for a long time. If you look around, you will find corruption, greed, moral decay, and a steady move away from the things that made us great. The principles upon which this nation was founded are no longer our backbone. However, we can reverse this trend.

2 Chron. 7:14 in God's word states, "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

I am convinced that we must pray for our nation and its leaders and ask for forgiveness. So I ask you to join me in this plea to our Lord.

Would you please send this to people in your address book (send it to all  believers); ask them to pray EVERYDAY.

25 to only the 5th power is 9,765,625 people. IMAGINE if each person reaches 10 others...or all 25!

If you do and they comply, we will lift up millions and millions of prayers a day to our Creator. He will hear and will answer.

Let me just add a quote from Ronald Reagan.
"IF WE EVER FORGET THAT WE ARE ONE NATION UNDER GOD, THEN WE WILL BE A NATION GONE UNDER”.
I truly believe this is why the United States of America is in the shape we are in today. Most people have forgotten that we are one nation under God! Let us stand up and remind people of this.

Have a blessed day!

Thanks so much, Don! We just "forwarded" this to over 550 people!  Hmmm, I'm wondering how anyone could get through a day without praying?!?

From John London (Warwick HS - '57) of VA - 08/29/09 - "There were probably many times ..":

There were probably many, many times this year when I may have disturbed you, troubled you, pestered you, irritated you, bugged you, or got on your nerves with all the e-mails I send.

So today I just wanted to tell you..........

FINALLY:

From ArcaMax Jokes.com - 08/29/09:

The Painter

The homeowner was delighted with the way the painter had done all the work on his house. "You did a great job." he said and handed the man a check. "Also, in order to thank you, here's an extra $80 to take the missus out to dinner and a movie."

Later that night, the doorbell rang and it was the painter. Thinking the man had forgotten something he asked, "What's the matter, did you forget something?"

"Nope." replied the painter. "I'm just here to take your missus out to dinner and a movie like you asked."

Cry Me a River

Written by Arthur Hamilton, 1953

Now you say you're lonely
You cry the whole night thorough
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you

Now you say you're sorry
For bein' so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you

You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, I remember all that you said
Told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and

Now you say you love me
Well, just to prove you do
Come on and cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you

I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you
(fade)

I cried a river over you.
