550 YEARS AGO TODAY::

THIS
DAY IN WWII:
August 26, 1934 - Adolf Hitler demanded that France turn over
their Saar region to Germany.
August 26, 1940 -
Chad became
the first
French
colony to join the Allies under the administration of
Félix Éboué,
France's
first black colonial
governor.
August 26, 1942 -
Holocaust in
Chortkiv, western
Ukraine:
At 2.30 am the
German
Schutzpolizei started driving
Jews out of
their houses, divided them into groups of 120, packed them in freight
cars and deported 2000 to
Belzec death camp. 500 of the sick and children were murdered on the
spot.
August 26, 1944 -
Charles de Gaulle entered
Paris.
August 26, 1945 - The Japanese were given surrender instructions
on the U.S. battleship Missouri.
August 26, 1961 - All crossing points into East Germany were
closed for West Berlin citizens. |

TODAY
IN 1966:

“How much pressure is
too much pressure to remain true? How much disappointment is too much
disappointment to stand firm? How far is too far to walk with a
discouraged friend, or a struggling spouse, or a troubled child? When
the opposition heats up and the going gets tough, how much of what we
thought was important to us will we defend and how much, in that
inevitable tug and pull of life, will we find it convenient to give
away?”

Lauren's Fall
Crochet Patterns
- "Fall
is right around the corner, friends! I couldn’t be more excited. This roundup of
15 fall crochet patterns is right up my alley, and makes me very excited about
the coming of my favorite season. I love apple cider, driving through the
mountains looking at leaves, and everything else that goes with autumn.
Unfortunately, summer and fall aren’t that much different here in Central
Florida. Instead of crisp, cool air we’ll be enjoying hot, humid afternoons.
Thankfully, crochet patterns like this can help me feel like it’s fall even when
it’s toasty outside."

For Once in My Life
Written by
Ron Miller
(c. 1933 - July 23, 2007) and Orlando Murden, 1967
Recorded by
Stevie Wonder,
1968
(b. 13 May 1950)
For once in my life I have someone who needs me
Someone I've needed so long
For once, unafraid, I can go where life leads me
And somehow I know I'll be strong
For once I can touch what my heart used to dream of
Long before I knew
Someone warm like you
Would make my dreams come true
For once in my life I won't let sorrow hurt me
Not like it's hurt me before
For once, I have something I know won't desert me
I'm not alone anymore
For once, I can say, this is mine, you can't take it
As long as I know I have love, I can make it
For once in my life, I have someone who needs me
