Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Several months
ago we switched our phone service so that now it doesn't matter how many long
distance calls
I do or do not make, the phone bill remains the same. This is great fun,
except I usually forget I have this, and
forget to phone anybody. If you'd like to talk sometime, send me your
phone number (which I've probably lost)
and a convenient time to call, and we can chat. YEA!
But yesterday
three of y'all called me - which was great fun, I must say, and we shall
deal with all the exciting
news you imparted individually, so stay tuned.

PHONE CALLS:
1. Cheryl White Wilson (John Marshall HS - '64) of VA - 08/23/05
Cheryl is my first cousin and
fairly new to our pages. I tried to call her to sing "Happy Birthday" and
got a wrong
number instead. So she called me and said, "Start singing!"
HA-HA-HA-HA-HA! Cheryl mentioned how much
she enjoyed the Vic Zodda's page with its
new images (Thanks again, Dave!), and we talked of many things such
as the old Pal orange and grape ade,
and then she laid the biggie on me. She said before they moved away
from the Peninsula, back in the late sixties and early seventies, she and Don
attended Orcutt Avenue Baptist
Church, and were good friends of Fred
Mays ('60) and Patty Andrews Mays ('61) and John Howard ('66)
and
Cheryl Mays Howard ('66)!!! WOWZERONI-RINI!!!
Here again we have a scanner cue for an image of Cheryl and Don from that
time frame so that Patty and Fred
and Cheryl and John can quit scratching their heads, but alas. However, I
did remember that there is one of Cheryl
and me from a few years earlier that is already in my computer files which might
help:

Oh, yeah, that's helpful - NOT!!!
Thanks again, Cheryl! I'll talk to you next week! |

2. Bobby Yevak ('65) of VA - 08/23/05
Bobby told me that
Worth Roberts was in town, and that through a remarkable series of
circumstances, they had
just had lunch together! HOW COOL!!!
3. Margaret Burns-Edwards ('67) of VA - 08/23/05:
In addition to
reiterating her incredible offer for free floral arrangements for all NNHS
Reunions, Margaret made
another generous offer, but this one is tinged with pain. Connie
Dickson Mitchell ('67) is a close friend
of Margaret's. She is ill now with cancer which has spread to her spine,
and the prognosis is not optimistic.
Margaret said if any of us wish to write a note to Connie and send it to
Margaret at Floral Fashions
at
floralfashions@earthlink.net,
she will attach a floral arrangement to it and deliver it to Connie. What
a sweet and
wonderful gesture! Please avail yourself of this opportunity. It
will be much appreciated, and you'll feel better, too.
Thanks so very much, Margaret.
Margaret, as you may recall, is the younger sister of Barbara Burns Reeves ('65). Keep reading.......

From Cheryl Mays Howard ('66) of VA - 08/23/05 - "To the Queen":
To quote someone dear and near to
me.. "NNHS class of '66 will be celebrating our 40-YEAR
reunion"...were it our 40th reunion.. we could have had to have one every
year!
OH,
YOWZERONI-RINI!!! I must have more brain
damage than I realized!! I've
been harping on that usage for nearly 40 years myself! Where have you
been, Cheryl?!? But now I have this
nonsense posted literally everywhere on the site! What on earth was
I thinking?!?
![]()
This is such an egregious
error that I'm forced to break my own rule and do some serious revisionist
history
to obliterate it! And that's probably going to take me another five years
to accomplish, so if you eagle-eyed
wonders can send them to me when you spot them, I will be exceedingly grateful.
Thanks so much, Cheryl!!!

From John Murden ('60) of VA - 08/23/05:
~John
Thanks, John - it's great to be back!
Although I try not to put words
in his mouth, I'm sure that Dave enjoyed himself every bit as much as I did.
We
certainly appreciated the privilege of being there as guests of the Class of
1960, and it was such fun meeting
people we have come to know only through the
Newsletters, as well as seeing old friends once again. Thanks
again to Karen (Weinstein Witte of FL) and the Reunion Committee for the
gracious invitation!
And John, it's only been 45 years. I recognized you instantly so you couldn't have changed all that much!

From Anne Marlow Fitzgerald ('65) of CA - 08/23/05:
OOOPS!!!
What a difference a letter makes! As they say here in North Carolina,
California is "a fer piece
down the road". Well, I have a tendency to move people around a lot
anyway. Once while he wasn't looking, I moved
Craig Miller ('63) from Florida to Texas. Okay, so I had
just had another teeny-tiny stroke, but mostly, as Craig said,
I'm just a cuckoo brain. Sorry, Anne! I moved you back to
California, if that's where you really want to be.
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/reunion2005-attending.html
(Personally, I'd still rather be back in Virginia! WILD GIGGLES!!!)
I'm glad you enjoyed visiting
the site, Anne! It's good to hear from you! As it will take you ten
or twelve hours to see
it all, I can think of a couple of places right off the top of my head where
you'll find your own picture:

P.S. OOPS!
Thanks, Dee!
Okay, Sweetie-Babies!
If you don't dutifully report in to Mama-Dee, I shall be forced to give her your
contact
info myself, and then you'll all shoot me for breaking my own rule, so be good.
You know she needs it; how's she
gonna keep your class together otherwise?!?
(We may have a little trouble
with Paul Dobie temporarily. As you know, he volunteered to go back
to the Dark
and Dusty Badlands for a year, and while the military email addy he gave me for
over there worked initially, it doesn't
seem to be doing so now.)

BACKLOGS:
I have just
made a horrifying discovery. My
NNHS65@nc.rr.com
email account which
basically disintegrated on 04/21/05 - which I thought was being preserved in a
web mail
format, apparently has been emptying after a certain amount of time. I
think I'm going
to be quite ill now, because I know of several important items which are now
gone.
ARGHHHH!

From Gene Collins Glave ('60) of VA - 07/14/05:
Hi Carol,
Enjoyed meeting you at our class reunion last Saturday night. Good job on the
web page!
You distributed cards and I took one. Then someone at our table knocked over a
drink that
went everywhere, including on your card! Please let me know if there is a link I
should use
other than nnhs65.00freehost.com.
Take care! (My maiden name was Collins)
Gene Glave, RN

I'm sorry this was misplaced for so long, Gene! At least I found it before it disappeared altogether!
Thanks - I had a great
time, and we have a cute shot or two of you and your cousin, Neta (Collins
Hastings -
'60 - of VA) which we'll try to post quite soon.
For those of you who don't
know, Gene is the sister of Pauline Collins Shofner ('65) of VA, and Neta
is the
sister of Rip Collins ('65) of TN.

of moving up closer to ye old homestead. Thanks again for the site.
Judy
Hey, Judy! You never fell of the list; the Newsletters just fell off the planet!
You're thinking of moving back too?!? YAHOO!!! Hold to the dream! Thanks, Lady!

From Chip Clark ('65) of Northern VA - 08/11/05:
Hi Carol: ...welcome back to the web!...
I don't know if you got this notice....I sent it several months ago and got no response. I found Barbara Burns, but not the way I had hoped. I googled her name, and got an obituary... Here it is...
Bowie woman killed in one-vehicle accident
April 30, 2005
BOWIE (Special) - A
Bowie woman was killed and her mother seriously injured in a one-vehicle
accident south
of Bowie on U.S. 287 Friday morning.
The accident occurred at 10:30 a.m. just before the Lawhorn exit on U.S. 287, approximately six miles from Bowie.
Department of Public Safety
Trooper Mark Coonce said Jennifer Robin Reeves was northbound on U.S. 287 in a
GMC Jimmy. The preliminary investigation indicates she overcorrected and went
across the bar ditch on the right
side of the road. The vehicle overturned, slid across the service road, and
turned over in the bar ditch.
The driver was ejected from the
vehicle. Justice of the Peace Jim Willard pronounced the 32-year-old driver dead
at the scene. Her passenger, Jennifer Reeves' mother, Barbara Lynn Reeves, 57,
had to be removed from the
vehicle. She was flown to Harris Hospital.
Barbara Lynn Reeves and Jennifer Robin Reeves
Barbara Lynn Reeves and her daughter, Jennifer Robin Reeves, passed away on April 29, 2005.
Graveside services for Barbara
and Jennifer were Tuesday, May 3 at The Cowboy’s Last Ride Cemetery
with Dr. Larry Cox officiating. White Family Funeral Home of Bowie directed the
services.
Barbara was born August 9, 1947
in Dallas, TX to Lynn Otis and Elsie (Lee) Burns. She married Loyd Lynn
Reeves on August 4, 1970 in Ardmore, OK. She loved gardening, cooking and
volunteering her time at the
animal shelter. She was a loving wife and mother.
Jennifer was born December 24,
1972 in Newport News, VA to Loyd Lynn and Barbara Lynn (Burns) Reeves.
She was a giving woman with a love for dogs. She loved caring for her own dogs
and spending time with her
mother and father. She was an avid movie watcher.
They are preceded in death by
Barbara’s parents and Jennifer’s grandparents, Lynn and Elsie Burns;
Barbara’s sister and Jennifer’s aunt, Carol Crouch.
They are survived by Barbara’s
husband and Jennifer’s father, Loyd Reeves of Bowie, TX; Barbara’s sister
and Jennifer’s aunt, Margaret Edwards and her husband, Bruce of Poquoson, VA;
Barbara’s brothers and
Jennifer’s uncles, Robert Burns and his wife Cindy of Poquoson, VA and Lee Burns
and his wife, Vicky of Clinton,
MS; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Chippy and Margaret, I apologize for the two delays. The first was totally beyond my control. The second was beyond my strength. I had really planned to begin my updates with the myriad of deaths which occurred while I was down. But after three months, the euphoria of being back all but prohibited me from dealing with the sadder issues right away.
This is now posted, and awaits my scanner for further embellishment and creation of a special newsletter.
