Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
WOW! Is it just me, or does today seem sleepier than usual?!? YAWN!!! Oh, 'scuse me!
I really like this music that
Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA found for our Newsletter today. The man is a
genius!
(Thanks, David!)
We have more reunion news for you today:
|
|
These new additions are now
located on the main index page, and will appear in some form or other on the
next forty-eleven Newsletters.
From Me ('65) of NC - 08/22/05:
Thank you for the generous financial
donations to the web site this week. They are always needed
and always gratefully received!
From David Whitley ('67) of VA - 08/20/05:
Did I
miss something while I was out of action? What's this about people being upset
with you? For what?
How in the name of Heaven, could ANYone be upset with you for ANYthing? Please
send me their names and
addresses so I can get in touch with them and have an "attitude adjustment"
session. I used to be very good
at that, and I'll bet it would take no time at all to get back in that
groove.........
Okeedokee, talk at ya later, D
I'm sure you could do it
in a flash, Gorgeous! So I suppose I'd better keep their names quiet to
preserve their
lives and keep you from being incarcerated. You owe me a dance or two at the
reunion, and if you're locked up
in Sing-Sing or somewhere, that would be rather difficult. Anyway, chances
are excellent they were all simply
misunderstandings. It's just that there were so many, so suddenly, and
they all
came at once. And apparently I
don't handle
rejection very well, whether real or merely perceived. But thanks so
much for your gallant offer,
Sweetie!!!
You are my hero!
And take good care of yourself, Baby! (Sorry - I couldn't resist that one - GIGGLES!)
From Cathy Slusser Hudson ('64) of VA - 08/20/05:
Welcome Back - it has been a long time. I sure missed
you. I don't care what others say, I for one am glad you
are up to your old self again. I have just started reading the updates since
you got back up and running and I
hope your computer doesn't go on vacation again anytime soon.
Catherine
Hey, Cathy! Thanks so much - it's certainly good to be back!
I remember Bob best from band
for his stellar performances on the baritone horn which earned him a
Sherman Award in his senior year. But we all know the interesting
qualities of my so-called memory, so
I checked in my trusty '61 Anchor. Bob listed his activities as:
Transferred Clinton High School
Senior Band
Senior Chorus
J. V. Football
D. O. Club: State President
Dance Band
Bible Club: Vice-President
Once again, this would have been
my cue to have scanned in his senior portrait (personally autographed
to me, a lowly mouse - WOWZERS - he even called me "a great and cute girl"!!!),
and you could have said
to yourself, "Oh, yeah - THAT Bob Carden, sure!", but alas, still no
scanner.
But on page 64, there is an
image of the Diversified Occupations Club showing both your brother and
Bob.
TA-DAH!!! But there's that scanner problem again....
Oh, wait a minute (or as we of
Scottish descent and poor typing skills say, "Wit a minute!")!
If you look closely,
you may be able to see him here:

That's Bob in the fourth row, in
front of the color guard, to the right of Buster Vest ('63)! (Hope
you have
your magnifying glass handy...)
Thanks, Catherine! And thanks, Bob - 44 years later! GIGGLES!!!
From Dave Arnold ('65) of VA - 08/20/05:
Your (reunion reservation) check arrived today. You're
going to have to really work if you're
going to have more fun than Pam. Be sure to send me the resume (for Paul) and
I'll see what
I can find out. If you're really serious about this what is your time frame?
Dave Arnold
Now Dave, you know I never have
to work at having fun! It just happens!!!
Oh, I'm quite serious, I assure you!
I'll be getting that resume out to you this week. And we'll need to wait
until my #6 son Dale comes home from California and has a bit of time to
acclimate himself, but I should
think by spring or summer at the latest would be good. "Carry Me Back
to Old Virginey!"
Thanks, Dave - that would be SUPER-DUPER!!! "Ya gotta have a dream!"
From Sandra Ray ('61) of VA - 08/21/05:
Hi, Sandra! I'm getter better all the time - thanks!
I remember you quite well!
Thanks for introducing yourself to me at the reunion, because I do tend to get
soooo excited at those things my brain isn't always connected. (Come to
think of it, my brain is rarely completed
connected...) And that was a simply fabulous, utterly remarkable
reunion, and unlike any other, both in its purpose
and its scope.
But all reunions are different
and wonderful in their own way, so I hope you'll plan to join us again in
October
for the Reunion of the Great Class of 1965. As Dave and Pam have promised,
we're going to have some FUN!
And thanks, Sandra - by and
large, I 've had a wonderful summer - including two trips to Newport News and
one
to Illinois!
From Sarah Puckett Kressaty ('65) of VA - 08/21/05:
LOVE that music (on the Newsletter of 08/20/05 - Dawn in the Valley)! Very pretty!
s.
Thank you, Sarah Sugah! Isn't that lovely? The flute obbligato towards the end just blew me away!
If any of y'all know anything more of the origins of that piece of music, I do wish you'd let me know. Thanks!
From John Patterson ('59) of Northern VA - 08/22/05:
Carol,
Please change my e-mail address to:
johnpattersonjr@peoplepc.com
My wife (Aretie Gallins-'59) and I just got a NNHS
yearbook for the Class of 1926 and other
interesting articles, etc., from the estate of Lewis Carper-'26.
I will shortly scan these items and send you a CD with the images. Please let me
know in which
format (.jpg, etc.) you would prefer.
Best Regards,
John Patterson-'59
WOWZERS!!! How exciting! Thanks, John! Yes, a .jpg format would be preferable.
And I updated your email addy too, both here and on my mailing lists. Thanks for the resend on that.
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/contact-ALL.html
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/contact-1959.html
Speaking of my mailing lists, I think I
just thought of a fairly simple way to integrate the two lists, while still
preserving
them both. (I'm using a Yahoo address book now, but before the crash, I
had a list in my files which I generated myself,
which I was using when I was sending mail via my
NNHS65@nc.rr.com
address. This of course was prior to the nasty
worm which infected my Outlook accounts on 04/21/05 - which ultimately had to be
destroyed. SOB!!!)
I still have that list, and all
my files. It was all the emails which I had saved from Feb 2002 until then
which were
permanently lost. Every now and then I think of those items and freak out,
but it could have been far, far worse.
UPDATES:

Oh, cool!!! I never stayed there, but I certainly remember it as part of the landscape! Thanks, Bob!
This is now posted about halfway down the Buckroe Beach page:

There was
much more I was planning to add and update today, but I somehow invited four
people for dinner
tonight. It's Monday - what was I thinking?!?
Y'all have a good day - and take care of each other! TYPHOONS FOREVER!
Love to all, Carol

Take Good Care of My Baby
Words and Music by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, 1961
(Bobby Vee)
My tears are fallin' 'cause you've taken her away
And though it really hurts me so
There's something that I've gotta say
Take good care of my ba-a-a-by
Please don't ever make her blu-u-u-ue
Just tell her that you love her
Make sure you're thinking of her
In everything you say and do-o-o-o
Aww, take good care of my ba-a-a-by
Now don't you ever make her cry-y-y-y
Just let your love surround her
Paint a rainbow all around her
Don't let her see a cloudy sky
Once upon a time that little girl was mine
If I'd been true, I know she'd never be with you
So, take good care of my ba-a-a-by
Be just as kind as you can be-e-e-e
And if you should discover
That you don't really love her
Just send my baby back home to me
Well, take good care of my ba-a-a-by
Be just as kind as you can be-e-e-e
And if you should discover
That you don't really love her
Just send my baby back home to me
Aww, take good care of my ba-a-a-by
Well, take good care of my ba-a-a-by
FADE
Just, take good care of my ba-a-a-by
