Since I Don't Have You

“...Lost in your heart, lost in your eyes
Lost every day, no map to follow
Entire days, weeks, a blur
Flickers of light, in the darkness,
Only to be enveloped in shadows once more...

- Peter Winstanley

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's theme repeats on this day each year.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Since_I_Don%27t_Have_You:

"Since I Don't Have You" is a song by the doo-wop group The Skyliners. Released in 1958, the single reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also the top five of the R&B chart. The song, highlighted by a powerful vocal by lead singer Jimmy Beaumont, and a falsetto on the final chorus by Janet Vogel, is considered by oldies fans to be one of the best "heartbreak" ballads ever recorded, and a classic of pre-Beatles rock and roll, and is still frequently played on the radio. The song was featured in the films American Graffiti, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, Lethal Weapon 2, and Mischief.

"A colorful feature is the Senior Flagtwirlers who add interest and entertainment to football games and pep assemblies with their snappy routines and skits. Flagtwirler aspirants practice during the year and go through a series of eliminations in the spring. The new flagtwirlers are chosen by the band director and present flagtwirlers. Being a flagtwirler involves many hours of hard work and practice. Aside from football games and pep assemblies, flagtwirlers march in parades with the band and appear in band concerts." "THE NEWPORT NEWS HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR BAND contributes much to the enjoyment of the student body. The band is shown above at their fall concert which they gave in the Wythe auditorium.." "Drum Major, Carleton Spivey, leads Band Sweetheart, Marjorie Krause,
onto the field for the traditional ceremony. The presentation of the Band Sweetheart took place at the Craddock football game. The drum major has other duties besides leading the band at football games. He assists the band director in planning football half-time shows and in working out programs. The band sweetheart is elected each year by members of the Senior Band."

From Me ('65) of NC - 08/20/16 - "My Latest Cross Stitch Project - a Hamsa":

I've always been captivated by the beauty and sophistication of gold and silver threads used in embroideries. I've also been planning to make this Jorja Hernandez project ever since it appeared in the December 1996 issue of Leisure Arts, The Magazine, so nearly twenty years later, I decided to make it at last, using Aida 11 instead of Aida 14, and substituting gold floss for the easier version.

I finished it last night. I'm going hang it in the foyer by the front door. It makes me happy, and it's all about me, right?

“And thou shalt make an hanging for the door of the tent, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, wrought with needlework.
-
Exodus 26:36

And they shall take gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.
-
Exodus 28:5

Arachne first invented working with the needle which this mayd of Lydia learned from the spiders, taking her first samplers and patterns from them in imitation.”

Since I Don't Have You

Written by Joseph Rock (1884 – 1962), Jimmy Beaumont, Lenny Martin

Recorded by The Skyliners, December 1958

I don't have plans and schemes,
And I don't have hopes and dreams,
I-I-I don't have anything
Since I don't have you.

I don't have fond desires,
And I don't have happy hours,
I-I-I don't have anything
Since I don't have you.

I don't have happiness, and I guess
I never will again.
When you walked out on me,
In walked old misery,
And he's been here since then.

I don't have love to share,
And I don't have one who cares.
I-I-I don't have anything
Since--I don't--have--
You, you, you, you
You, you, you, you
You, you, you, you
(Yo-o-o-o-o-o-o-ou
