Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
I'm feeling nostalgic and melancholy - can you tell??
BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzyEd2soQkk - Since I Don't Have You - The Skyliners
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Since_I_Don%27t_Have_You:
"Since I Don't Have You" is a song by the doo-wop group The Skyliners. Released in 1958, the single reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also the top five of the R&B chart. The song, highlighted by a powerful vocal by lead singer Jimmy Beaumont, and a falsetto on the final chorus by Janet Vogel, is considered by oldies fans to be one of the best "heartbreak" ballads ever recorded, and a classic of pre-Beatles rock and roll, and is still frequently played on the radio. The song was featured in the films American Graffiti, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, Lethal Weapon 2, and Mischief. |

Don Jett (NNHS / Warwick HS - '60) of FL -
08/19/10 - "Class of '60 Reunion":
Hi Carol,
I must tell you how
thankful I am for you and your wonderful web-site. Having grown up
in Stuart Gardens and
North End (62nd Street), but
transferring to WHS in 1955 (9th Grade), I lost contact with many of
my NNHS friends. Through your
web-site and email contact, I was fortunate enough to be invited by
the Class of '60 to attend the 50-Year Reunion. I attended the
Friday Night Social at the beautiful home of Barbara Block
Goldstein and her husband on August 6th and that turned out to
be a night for my memory banks. Reuniting with so many childhood
friends, not seen since 1955, some of whom were not quickly
recognized and others who have hardly changed at all, brought back
so many memories of "the good old days". I am so thankful for the
class inviting this old WHS Farmer to share this special evening
with them. My only regret is leaving my camera at home, so if any
attendees wish to share their photos, I would dearly love seeing
them. I again thank you for being the catalyst that made this
special evening for me possible. Wow!.....what a lucky guy I am.
Best wishes,
'In God We Trust'
WOWZERS! Thank you so much, Don! ![]() I'm so sorry you forgot your camera; I hope someone sends you some pictures. You realize that there are vast hordes of people waiting to lynch me for never yet posting not only the Reunion Images from LAST year, but the the year before as well.....
They'll hafta
catch me first, and I'm 900 miles or so away, but.....

Thank you so much,
Sandra!

http://www.nnhs65.com/old-stomping.html Oh,
Su-san..... From
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_News_High_School: ... In 1971 Newport News High School was converted, along with Collis
P. Huntington and George Washington Carver High Schools, to an
intermediate school after the city's school district freedom-of-choice
plan was struck down in federal court and school districting went into
effect. In 1980 Newport News Intermediate School was closed. The school building is now used by the
U.S. Navy as an enlisted barracks for ships undergoing maintenance
at
Newport News Shipbuilding and is now named Huntington Hall.
How's it going on our 65th BD?
From Sandra Ray ('61) of VA - 08/19/10:
PS:
Attaching a photo of my great-grandson Heyden. I haven't found
the other photos I am sure I have of my dad and my daughter taken at the
Lions Bridge.
I posted this with
our collection:
December 2009
Heyden and the Lion
I looked six ways
from Tuesday to find the note
Susan Whitcomb Harlin ('72) of TX
sent me over seven years ago
explaining exactly what happened, but I cannot locate it. I
think she told me that the last NNHS class was 1971. Those in
the Class of 1972 could elect whether to have Newport News High School
or Ferguson High School on their diploma.
From Rochelle Spooner
('63) of NY -

Thought you might like to see
me, Rochelle, Trixie, my dog, and Shirley and Harry Spooner
and you know I can't find one picture of me as a flag twirler....
Namaste
Rochelle
Thanks for
that precious shot, Rochelle!
We can't have you not having a picture of yourself in your cute
little flagtwirler outfit, so here's one from the '61 Anchor.
It's "posta" be in the Junior Band section of the
website - which I've been
promising to make for about seven years now.....

"Our 65th Birthday"??
Well,
lemme see.
My birthday's not for ten more days, but I'll "only" be 63.
And your birthday is
January
22, so you must be talking about your Class Reunion.
I've not heard any updates lately:

Clubhouse, 1701 Waterview at Yorktown from 5:00 PM to 10:PM. For details, contact Susie
