We have still more sad news today.
Gloria
Vaughan Brinkley Barnes, Class of June 1947,
passed away on Thursday,
Friday, August 12, 2011 at her home in Douglas, Georgia at the age of 81.

DOUGLAS, GA -
Gloria Vaughan Brinkley Barnes, age 81, passed away on Friday, Aug. 12, 2011
at her home in Douglas.
She was born in Newport News where she graduated from Newport News High
School and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a former resident
of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., where she was a member of First Baptist Church of
Kitty Hawk where she served as church secretary. She later moved to Douglas,
where she was a member of First Baptist Church of Douglas. Gloria retired
from Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co. after many years of dedicated service to
John Pugh. She will be remembered for her dedicated walk with her Heavenly
Father and instilling Christian principles in her family and friends. |

She is survived by
her husband of 32 years, Edgar E. Barnes of Douglas; four children and their
spouses, Daria Morris (Paul) of Mt. Dora, Fl., Wesley Brinkley (Tina) of
Yorktown, Page Flanner (Ben) of Eustis, Fl. and Alan Brinkley (Deanna) of
Douglas; one sister, Doan Carter of Powhatan, two stepdaughters, Gayle
Pipkin (George) of Lugoff, S.C., Francis Hunt (David) of Newport News and
one stepson-in-law, Gordon Johnson of Gloucester; 13 grandchildren, 11
great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews that loved her and will
miss her greatly. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 23
years, Linwood Brinkley and her stepdaughter, Cheryl Johnson.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011
in the Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Stan Hicks
officiating.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to First
Baptist Church of Douglas, PO Box 790, Douglas, GA, 31534.

Gloria was that second
mother that God knew I would need in my growth of our Lord and Savior.
She came into my life and stood by all of us when our mother had
departed for Heaven. We love you so and will miss you until that day
when we too will be called home.

Grandma Barnes always had
a warm smile whenever I saw her growing up.
She served the Lord well and I know she is with her Heavenly Father now.

miss you so much but I know you are rejoicing and dancing with the
Father. Thank you for being a great testimony. Thank you for all the
memories and having us grandkids at the beach for the summer and I know
I will never forget helping with the bulletins at church :) Rest in
