We have another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter today.
Eggie Garth,
father of
Linda Garth Muse ('66) and
Susan Garth Brookman ('69), passed away in
Newport News on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the age of 87.

NEWPORT NEWS - Egbert Tyler
Garth Jr. passed away on Aug. 12, 2010. He was born Oct. 2, 1922, in Charlottesville, Va., and spent most of his adult life residing in Newport News. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater, and received the Purple Heart. He retired as Chief Magistrate for the City of Newport News and also served as a Marriage Commissioner since 1977. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Khedive Temple and Bremond Masonic Lodge #241 AF&AM. He was a member and past president of the James River Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Vera Loudon Garth; two daughters, Linda Garth Muse and husband, David, Susan Garth Brookman and husband, Michael; four grandsons, Brian Muse and wife, Jennifer, Paul Muse and wife, Deborah, Mark Brookman and wife, Christy, Adam Brookman; and three great-grandchildren. |

The family will receive friends
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Peninsula Funeral Home, with Masonic
Rites starting at 7 p.m. Graveside services, with Military Rites, will be held

The membership of James River
Rod & Gun Club express their deepest regrets to the passing of Mr.
Garth. Eggie was a long-time member and number 2 on the list of
seniority.
August 13, 2010 August 13, 2010 Mr. Eggie Garth was truly
respected and served our community as a professional and “father figure” for
so many years. He will be missed. Our family will keep your family in our
thoughts and prayers. Thanks for sharing him and his relentless dedication. August 13, 2010 I am saddened to hear of Mr. Garth's passing. Mr. Garth married my husband and me almost 21 years ago in his study. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
