May I extend my most sincere sympathy to the Garth family for your loss of Eggie. He was a dear friend of our family. It was an honor and privilege to know him. He was one of the senior members in James River Rod & Gun Club that my husband looked up to and respected. Eggie performed Gary's and my wedding ceremony in 1988. May you find comfort in your time of sorrow knowing that "to be absent from the body" is "to be present with the Lord." -2 Corinthians 5:8
Prayerfully, Mrs. Gary Scarlett

It is with deep regret to hear about Mr. Garth passing. He was a credit to the city of Newport News in many ways. As a police officer, I have used his services many times, and he was always available to help us out. He will be missed by all the older officers who knew him so well. From all the retired Newport News Police Officers
