SMITHFIELD - Ruth Eure Justice,
80, passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Sentara Obici Hospital after a
brief illness.
A native of Sunbury, N.C., Ruth was the daughter of the late Frank Edward
and Matte Pierce Eure. She formerly lived in Newport News for many years and
graduated from Newport News High School in 1944. She had been a Smithfield
resident since 1996.
Professionally, Ruth worked at NACA, later NASA. She was an administrative
secretary to Generals and Sr. Officers at TRADOC, Fort Monroe, where she
retired in 1987, after more than 30 years of combined service.
Ruth had a special love for animals and owned several dogs during her life.
After retirement with years at home, Ruth became an avid birdwatcher. She
cared deeply for her Pekinese and 'precious baby,' Alison, who survives her.
Ruth will be remembered as a lady with strong and unique convictions and
character. She had a vivacious sense of humor and was a loyal friend.
Preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Virgil H. Justice, Ruth is
survived by her son, Timothy Hurst Justice and his special friend, Barbara
L. Anderson, of Virginia Beach; her sister, Carolyn E. Lyons and her
husband, Harold, of Smithfield; her brother, Edward Frank Eure, and her
sister-in-law, Libby Len Bain, both of Ingram, Texas; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in
St. Luke's Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the IOW Humane
Society, P.O. Box 273, Smithfield, VA 23431.
Arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at

Onward Christian Soldiers
Words by Sabine
Baring Gould in Church Times, 1865.
Music (St. Gertrude) by Arthur S. Sullivan, 1871
Onward Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!
Christ, the royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See His banner go!
Chorus:
Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!
2. At the sign of triumph
Satan's host doth flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers,
On to victory!
Hell's foundation quiver
At the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise!
Chorus:
3. Like a mighty army
Moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod;
We are not divided;
All one body we
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity.
Chorus:
4. Onward, then, ye people,
Join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song;
Glory, laud, and Honor,
Unto Christ the King;
This thro' countless ages
Men and angels sing.
Chorus:
