Am I That Easy to Forget?

"It's so easy to forget the things that happen
to you because it all happens so fast.
Sometimes I'll just remember weird things."

-  Macaulay Culkin
(b. 26 Aug 1980)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

This old Jim Reeves song has always been a favorite of mine.  Apparently it's been hanging around in my files since last November. I had quite forgotten it was there.

UPCOMING BIRTHDAYS:

A Very Happy Birthday tomorrow to    Tommie Mouser ('60) of VA, and on Friday to Darlene Willis Marshall (Hampton HS - '68) of VA.

Many Happy Returns to you both!

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 07/27/06 - "Vic Zodda":

 Hi, Carol:

After recently visiting one of Our Old Stomping Grounds on Buxton Avenue in Newport News, we were surprised to find the marsh adjacent to the former Vic Zodda Restaurant is being filled in with dirt. This was part of Salter's Creek and marsh grass covered the area. The photo was taken on Buxton Avenue facing towards 25th Street. The former Vic Zodda Restaurant building is in the distance.

Salter's Creek?

Some changes are underway for this section. We were going to photograph the house on Buxton Avenue where    Eva Ellis Madagan ('61) of FL and her brother, John Eugene Ellis ('61) of FL resided when they graduated from NNHS. We were taken aback upon driving up Buxton Avenue to learn it is now debris being hauled away.

TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL

How horrible for you - especially Eva!  I am so sorry!  I hope to have these images posted on the Vic Zodda page before the end of the day.  Thanks for this report, Adonis - even if it was quite disturbing!

Dear Carol,

As the old saying goes, "A smile a day helps to keep the

Herbie Darlin', few people smile - or laugh - more than I, even when things go terribly, horribly wrong - and I certainly appreciate your efforts in keeping my spirits lifted.  You are such a sweetie pie!

/06 - "Dear Carol, A laugh a day keeps the doctor away !!!"

Dear Carol,

As the old time saying goes, (I just made this up). "A laugh a day keeps the Doctor away". I was reading your Newsletter and as I scrolled down to   Linda May's (Bond Crayton - '66 - of VA) comments on the "Lost Puppy" picture. I know what it is like before having your coffee in the morning, I like my Coffee like I like my women - "HOT, Black and Sweet" with three slices of Buttered Wheat Toast, After that the world can Slow Down so I can keep up with it. I got carried away when Linda May` mentioned Coffee. She has a fine sense of humor. I am still laughing at her response to that picture. In the future, I promise not to display any picture until after Linda May has her Coffee and Toast, (honest).

Your Friend, Herbie

   WILD GIGGLES!!!  Thanks, Herbie!

From Me ('65) of VA to    Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 08/12/06 - "New Teacher Pages":

In anticipation of not being connected after 08/17/06, I've been trying to add as much content as possible to the site itself today in the moments I was able to steal online. I thought the best place to concentrate would be on the Faculty pages, so there are seven new teachers listed now:

          http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/teach-Fooks.html - brand new page

If you think of any more you'd like in the next couple of days, I'll give them priority.

   It's been fun.

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA to    Me ('65) of NC - 08/12/06:

Did I miss something?  Why will you not be connected after 17 Aug?

D

From Me ('65) of VA to    Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 08/12/06 - "Connections":

We've been without any income since    Paul's (Harty - Bardolph HS, IL - '61 - of NC) job ended on 30 June. No new employment has been secured. Unemployment hasn't kicked in. Time-Warner Cable gets a bit testy when the phone/cable/internet bill isn't paid, and relieves you of their service. I mentioned it in several Newsletters.  The combined bill (which I can't seem to locate at the moment) is about $153.00 a month, and is one month behind.

Barring something miraculous, I'd say it all shuts down on the 17th or shortly thereafter. The electricity - also one month behind) is $207.20 per month, and will be shut off on the 24th. Due to frequent and persistent panic attacks, I haven't had "da noive" to speak with the landlord yet, but the rent of $475.00 was due on August 1. The car insurance will cancel on August 17. The water bill is behind and in jeopardy.  The trash pickup ($13.00 a month) is good until Sept. 15.  Our health insurance ended with the job, so physician visits are now a thing of the past, and our diabetes/hypertension medications will run out later this week.  Paul, of course, can go to the VA Hospital/Clinic just down the street, and I, uh, well, I can just get over it.

Dale (Harty - American School, IL - '02 - of NC) is leaving for college next week. In addition to buying his books and school supplies, he's been paying for the gas plus medicine and incidentals and a bill here or there, bless his sweet heart everlastingly.

Am I That Easy to Forget?

Words and Music by Carl Belew and W.S. Stevenson

(Jim Reeves)

They say you've found somebody new,
But that won't stop my loving you.
I just can't let you walk away,
Forget the love I had for you.

Guess I could find somebody, too,
But I don't want no one but you.
How could you leave without regret?
Am I that easy to forget?

Before you leave be sure you find
You want your new love much more than mine.
'Cause I'll just say we've never met,
If I'm that easy to forget?
If I'm that easy to forget?
