Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
This song originally came to me
while I was listening to my radio in my sleep. I thought we could enjoy it
together again.
BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQnAxOQxQIU - Truly Madly Deeply - Savage Garden
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truly,_Madly,_Deeply_%28song%29:
"Truly Madly Deeply" is a song by
Australian
pop band
Savage Garden, released as a single in March 1997. Written by
band-mates
Darren Hayes and
Daniel Jones, the song is a reworking of a song called "Magical
Kisses" that the pair wrote together long before recording began on
their debut album. "Truly Madly Deeply" was released as the third
single from their
self-titled debut album. In 1998, it became the main theme from
the soundtrack of the movie
Music from Another Room, starring
Jude Law and
Gretchen Mol.[2] There are two distinct versions of the song. The first was made available on the Australian version of the group's album, whereas the second version appears on the release of the album in Europe and America. This version was composed in 1996, and features a drum-machine track instead of the more acoustic-sounding music featured on the Australian version. The European version also features on the group's greatest hits compilation, Truly Madly Completely... The song was a major and sustained success in the U.S. beginning in 1997. Entering the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at #26 on 6 December 1997,[4] it peaked at #1 for two weeks in January 1998 and lingered for a full year on the chart.[4] The song spent half a year in the top ten alone. It hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart and #2 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks chart. It also went Top 10 on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart. On the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream chart the song hit number one for one week on 31 January before dropping to number two as Celine Dion assumed the top spot with the theme to the hit film Titanic, "My Heart Will Go On". Savage Garden's single held at #2 for ten weeks, before returning to the number one spot again the week of 18 April.[5] The song eventually set a record for the most weeks of any single in history on the U.S. Hot Adult Contemporary chart. In 1998 the song logged eleven weeks at number one on this chart, but its full chart span lasted 123 weeks... |

Joe Drewry ('58) of VA - 08/10/14
- " 'The Sound of the Birth of Rock and Roll' ":
The Drewrys (Alex, Letia & JWD) took in
the James Brown biopic "Get On Up" on a rainy Monday afternoon. Chadwick
Boseman did an amazing job duplicating the original moves of "the
Godfather of Soul". Mick Jaggar was the music producer and did an
excellent job syncing the original JB music so that there was no
evidence that Boseman was lip-syncing. I didn't realize that "Please,
Please, Please", Brown's 1st crossover hit (1956) was the song that
brought Funk/Soul to the mainstream. Many following R&R greats (Mick Jagger et al) give enormous credit to James Brown for their musical approach and personal stage moves. Of course, Brown (although a true creative genius) picked up much of his style from Little Richard. It was Little Richard's breakthrough hit "Tutti Fruiti" in 1955, that was recently hailed as "the sound of the birth of rock and roll" (by a panel of renowned recording artists). In 2010, the US Library of Congress National Recording Registry added the recording to its registry, claiming the "unique vocalizing over the irresistible beat announced a new era in music ". In April 2012, Rolling Stone magazine declared that the song "still contains what has to be considered the most inspired rock lyric ever recorded: ""A-wop-bom-a-loo-mop-a-lomp-bom-bom!!". The version of "Tutti Fruiti" that we old R&R aficionados know and love was derived from ribald song that Little Richard had written and composed, and which he had been performing live for a few years. The original lyrics: "Tutti Frutti, good booty If it don't fit, don't force it You can grease it, make it easy" were replaced with: "Tutti Frutti, aw rooty Tutti Frutti, aw rooty." The first time I heard Little Richard sing the song was on WRAP (850AM) and it is one of those "watershed" moments that I will never forget. WRAP was the favorite radio music station of most NNHS students who wanted to hear the real R&R, as WGH only played music by "white" recording artists (except for a late Saturday night program of "Baron BePop" aka Bob Calvert). During normal programming hours, WGH only played the Pat Boone covers of the "real" music of Little Richard, Fats Domino, Little Willie John, et. al. But back to the complex person who was James Brown. I think one reviewer summed it up well: "A monumental egotist, perfectionist and harsh taskmaster with a streak of paranoia, Brown reigned as the absolute monarch of his personal kingdom, answering to no one but himself." That was the James Brown as portrayed in "Get On Up" The signature song of the "Godfather of Soul" James Brown - Please, Please, Please https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4w454Lape8 Many may not remember that James Brown was an enthusiastic American Patriot. He lobbied the Defense Dept. long and hard to let him do a tour for the troops in Vietnam and turned it into a grand success that was covered well in the movie. His 1986 release "Living in America" was his personal tribute to the country he loved. The following You Tube original version is accompanied by an excellent slide show that highlights the America he is singing about. Savage Garden, 1997
I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy.
I'll be your hope
I'll be your love
Be everything that you need.
I love you more with every breath
Truly madly deeply do..
I will be strong I will be faithful
'Cause I'm counting on a new beginning.
A reason for living.
A deeper meaning.
I want to stand with you on a mountain.
I want to bathe with you in the sea.
I want to lay like this forever.
Until the sky falls down on me...
And when the stars are shining brightly
In the velvet sky,
I'll make a wish
Send it to heaven
Then make you want to cry..
The tears of joy
For all the pleasure and the certainty.
That we're surrounded
By the comfort and protection of..
The highest power.
In lonely hours.
The tears devour you..
I want to stand with you on a mountain,
I want to bathe with you in the sea.
I want to lay like this forever,
Until the sky falls down on me...
Oh can't you see it baby?
You don't have to close your eyes
'Cause it's standing right before you.
All that you need will surely come...
I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy.
I'll be your hope
I'll be your love
Be everything that you need.
I'll love you more with every breath
Truly madly deeply do...
