   The sad news continues this morning.  Loyce Outland Baker ('39) passed away recently in Connecticut.

  BAKER, Loyce Outland

Loyce Estelle Outland Baker a long time resident of Clinton, Connecticut died Friday, (July 27, 2007) at Middlesex Hospital. She was the loving wife of Col. Warren S. Baker, Jr. who passed away a year ago in June. She is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-laws, Warren and Maryellen Baker and Charles and Barbara Baker; her sister, Selma Graves of Richmond, Virginia ; and granddaughters, Sarah Baker and Lauren Baker. She was the daughter of John Bernard Outland and Selma Riddick Outland of Virginia. Her brother John Outland, Jr. died in 1973. She attended Chowan College, Murfreesboro, North Carolina. She trained as a nurse at Riverside Hospital School of Nursing, Newport News, VA. She served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II as an air evacuation nurse where her commanding officer introduced her to future her husband. You may remember her in the Clinton Tax Collectors office where she assisted her husband. She loved to play bridge with friends. She always enjoyed people and corresponded and visited the friends made over her lifetime. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, August 1st from 5 p.m. until the time of a memorial service at 7 p.m. at the Swan Funeral Home, 80 East Main St., Clinton. Burial with full military honors will be held at the National Cemetery in Arlington in August. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to any charity that you wish.

    What a remarkable woman she must have been.  Once again, our deepest condolences are extended to Mrs. Baker's friends and family at this difficult time.
